Title: The good guy thread.
Post by: MyGodWearsAHoodie on May 30, 2018, 01:35:06 pm
Football players are human beings.

Some are real douches that drive drunk, abuse their kids and girl friends, stiff waitstaff and act like they are superior to everyone else.

Some are kind, generous and use their fame and fortune to make the lives of others better in large and small ways.

All too often we focus the former and ignore the latter.  This thread is to post examples of the latter.

That's always a heartwarming thing to read.  Reminds me of this passage I had to copy in third grade for a penmanship exercise:

Do all the good you can
To all the people you can
For as long as you can
In every place you can

~John Wesley

What about Alzado?  Didn't he used to go visit sick kids in the hospital on a regular basis?  I wonder sometimes if somebody did that today they'd be accused of something.

A lot of players spend time visiting local kids at hospitals...it's probably one of the most common "good things" that players do off the field.

I LOVE the fact she was wearing a tee shirt from another team.

Excellent thread.  Unfortunately, our society gets a sick thrill out of hearing bad things and doesn't care much about good things.  As the old news adage goes, "If it bleeds, it leads."  Personally, I love seeing stories of how guys who are total badasses and look like they eat children will end up being truly caring human beings who do a lot of good in their communities, etc.

On a much smaller level of course, my wife gets a kick out of it when my tatted up, weightlifting, biker self sees someone with a dog and I ask permission to pet it and I end up on the ground playing with it, baby talking to it, etc.  It is a good reminder not to judge someone's character by their looks or how they are in one particular situation.
