No more holdouts by rookies that last well into training camp. No doubt. From a fan perspective (and obviously from the team's perspective), the Rookie wage scale is a beautiful thing. I'm really surprised that the player union agreed to that concept, but that is another discussion for another thread. Vets will always be a strong lobby group against alumni and unsigned rookies.

The total amount of money spent by teams on wages is determined by the salary cap and floor. What it does is reduce the likelihood of some who is a poor player getting a boat load of money and makes more available for proven players.

It also doesn't cripple a team's cap like it used to if said player turns out to be a draft bust. Jamarcus Russell set the Raiders back for years with his godawful play, and they couldn't just cut him loose. |
