Title: How to get rich in the NFL
Post by: dolphins4life on September 03, 2019, 12:25:33 am
Be a back up quarterback on the Patriots.

Brian Hoyer 3 years $12 million

Jacoby Brisset  2 years $30 million

Garapollo and Cassell

Or is this inflation?

Inflation.

Tannehill, 1 year $7 million, plus $5 million if he winds up playing a significant number of games.

Top 18 quarterbacks by salary have contracts worth than $20 million a year. Then there's Andy Dalton at $16 million. After that, there's a significant drop as we get into backup, old contracts and rookie contracts, but the bottom line is that if you want a non-rookie-contract quarterback with decent skills as your backup today, you're going to have to pay for it.

As for starting quarterback, Marcus Mariota's rookie contract illustrates it well: About $6 million a year for the first 4 years and then $20 million plus for the year-5 option.

Ouch.

But that's what a starting quarterback costs today.

Chad Henne isn’t doing too bad for himself.

Yeah he's getting $4M this year (11th season) and won't be playing after breaking his ankle.  This may be it for him.  His replacement, Matt Moore is only getting $1M though, poor Matt.

I'm sure poor old Matt is doing fine financially. Hell, we could have brought him in to be our starter for a couple million. Probably wouldn't have made a difference this year one way or the other.

Chad Henne never played for the Patriots, did he?

Nbc sports had a link on this.  I will try to find it.

Cassell tore up the NFL in 2008 due to having the best receivers in NFL history.  That's how he cashed in on that.

I don't know what Jacoby Brissett did to earn $30 million for two years.

He happened to be in the right place at the right time, maybe?   That deal has little in the way of guaranteed money so if he shits the bed this year, they can release him with a minimal cap hit.

No, Chad Henne never played for the Patriots nor accomplished much yet he raked in over $30 million dollars.  That is my point.  QBs make money, not just ones from NE

Not if, when.

My memory could be off, but I thought he was decent filling in for Luck last year.  The problem will be that Indy has a crappy O-line, which is probably partly the reason Luck said see-ya.

Indy's O-line was one of the best in the league last year.  They've turned that thing around
