Title: Bills game this Sunday
Post by: dolphins4life on November 14, 2019, 01:08:02 am
Like, I said earlier, I am torn.

This season has actually been more fun than previous ones, as there aren't any "Might have beens" like in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2017, and last year.

I don't want them to finish 8-8 and miss the playoffs by one game, and then we all look back on the two point conversion as "What Might Have Been."

I think it's safe to say we got this loss in the books already. If we beat the Bills (edited) ... then I'll start to worry.

Bills are a 4 win team masquerading at 6-3 due to the league's easiest schedule and luck. Josh Allen sucks and is the reason you don't draft whatever QB you can just because you need a QB. While I wouldn't expect a win, it wouldn't shock me if we do defeat them.

I messed up. I thought the game was in snowy Buffalo and we would need a great running game. I didn't realize it is in Miami. Miami could win this game.

If Mia goes 6-10 or better Flores should win COTY.

I agree. Traded or cut anyone that had a shred of ability and they won 2 games. Hell, he should be in the running at 4-12.

You don't get COTY honors for doing better then expected. You get COTY for doing better then expected AND having a winning record. I don't recall any COTY winners from any under .500 teams in recent history.

Only CotY winner with a losing record was Jimmy Johnson in 1990.

I think the AP guys would give serious consideration to Flores if he went 7-9.

Miami winning could hurt both draft picks.  If Buffalo is a wildcard team it makes it harder for the Steelers to make the playoffs.

I think Miami has a shot this week, actually.

Agreed. 4-12 however won't get it done and I don't even think 6-10 will get it done. Maybe 7-9, but then Miami would have to go 5-2 the rest of the way. That's a pretty tall order and if accomplished, then yeah maybe he should get COTY.

If Miami goes 7-9, then Flores deserves it. He won't get it as that will go to the Niners coach for their turnaround, but Miami's would be more remarkable.

My wild prediction: Miami wins.  Ends the season missing the 6th seed by two games and the 15th  pick.

Mass hysteria ensues, both from those who supported the tank (how the did we fuck up losing on purpose?) and those who didn’t (why did we trade away the good players, we had an actual shot this year?)

So in other words just another typical year for bi-polar Dolphins Fans.  But you did leave out the rumor that Tom Brady retires at the end of this season.  lol

He is playing next year....might not be for NE, but he is playing.  I think Tom wants to prove he can win a SB w/o BB and BB wants to win one without TB.  Be awesome if they met in Tampa Bay to find out.

I think he still wants to have a perfect season.  Now that he can't have one this year, he will definitely be back.

I don't want him to retire.  If he does, nobody will take Miami seriously anymore.

If he does retire the Patriots WILL become my second favorite team.  Then again, maybe their opponents won't mess up as much when Brady retires.

BB has COST Brady several Super Bowls with his insanely idiotic decision-making.

This is possibly the perfect D4L post.  It is art.

The Dolphins had been undefeated since acquiring Talib.

Looks like that streak will end today against Buffalo

Now 16-7

Was that the right decision to go for the extra point there?

Part 1 of Tank for Tua went well this weekend Dolphins lost.  But Tua had serious injury.

Not anymore. It seem more like Tua tanked in order to not have to come to Miami, haha.

I didn't realize Tua had one more year of college eligibility.  He can still come back and play for Alabama again next season.

This is possibly the perfect D4L post.  It is art.

D4L's statement of "BB has COST Brady several Super Bowls with his insanely idiotic decision-making" may have some truth to it, however.  I wouldn't go so far to say idiotic.  Clearly the largest one was the Butler benching and then not making the in-game adjustment when Foles was ripping his secondary apart and Butler was needed.  2009 was the much debated 4th and one call against Indy in the regular season (this was when I still covered the team); the Pats were leading in this game (beating an undefeated Colts team at the time) with just over 2:00 to play.  This was the difference between a first round bye or hosting a wild card game (10-6 or 11-5); they hosted the Ravens who came into New England and crushed then.

Both of the Giants SB losses featured highly favored Patriot teams against a Giant squad who caught fire later in the season - and a Patriots team who, despite being known for the ability to make in game adjustments, was never able to account for the defensive rush.  The first of the two was massively egregious.  The 2007 season (Jan 2008 SB) the Patriots went into the SB unbeaten, 1st in the league in scoring, 4th in the league in points against.  They were ridiculous.  The Giants came in literal mid-pack; 14th points for and 17th points against.  This was not a juggernaut of a team but they managed to hold New England, the greatest QB alive and the genius coach, to 14 points in the Super Bowl.  There were a lot of questionable decisions made in that game.

You can't take away without giving.  New England didn't come back and beat Seattle and Atlanta by mistake, the Hoodie had a lot to do with those two wins.

The other teams show up to play, too.  I think New England's win-loss total in the Super Bowl is right about where it should be; maybe absent the Philly game.  We will never know the real reasons for the Butler thing (or if that one decision would have made a huge difference).

Maine, here's what I mean

2006 AFC Championship vs Indy (Granted, the refs are the main reason the Colts won, but let's set that aside for a moment)

It's 34-31 Patriots, the Colts have it first and ten at the 12.  Instead of calling timeouts and saving time, Bill doesn't.  The Colts score with one minute left, rather than one minute forty.  The Patriots would have had an excellent chance of coming back to score the winning touchdown with those extra seconds.

2007 Super Bowl vs NYG

It's fourth and long at the Giants thirty midway through the third quarter.  The obvious decision would be a field goal, but he goes for it, fails, and the Patriots lose by three.

2015: AFC title game against Denver.

Twice failed to kick field goals, which cost NE that game

2017: Super Bowl vs Philly

Benching Butler

Saying that BB cost Brady super bowls is moronic.  Are there plays and decisions that BB would want back?  Sure.  But BB also put Brady in position to win 6 of them.  Keep in mind. without BB, Brady likely never get an opportunity at all. BB is the only one in the Patriots organization who wanted to draft Brady (and given the fact he was still available at the end of the 6, the only person in the NFL) It was because of BB the patriots kept 4 QBs.  Without BB, Brady is drafted in the 7th or is an UDFA who never gets a real opportunity to become the starter.

As for Butler, the mentality that benches Butler is the discipline that is required to have success getting productivity from Randy Moss, Ocho, Mevis, etc.

Belichick almost singlehandedly determined the SB last year and Brady did virtually nothing.  Furthermore, that loss to IND in 2009 was functionally irrelevant, given that:

1) SD finished 13-3, so NE getting 11 wins makes no difference in seeding.
2) even if NE were the #2 seed, BAL beat NE at Gillette, so I don't see how it matters if they lost that game in the Wild Card round or the divisional round.  And even if NE didn't draw BAL, the other Wild Card was... NYJ, who kindly escorted NE from the playoffs in Foxborough the following year.

What mentality is that? I'm a bit confused.  There is no reason not to have your best player in the game.

Even in the Atlanta Super Bowl, that onside kick decision was stupid.  Luckily the Falcons decided to be stupider

That fourth and two decision WAS THE RIGHT DECISION.  Even they had punted, the Colts would likely have scored anyway.

I would also argue the first SB victory was all game plan.  The Rams never knew what hit them.

I've said for years, I will continue to say - put BB and his entire coaching staff in Miami, with this roster.  Give them five years.  I'll finally get a championship hat.

IDK, Maine.

A lot that would depend on if teams keep messing against BB when he is with Miami as they do now when they play him in New England.

Had I known what the next 11 years would be like, I might have bought a "Division Champions" hat in 2008.  LOL

I proudly wore my 1985 AFC championship sweatshirt until it was so faded you could barely read the writing.  (Actually I think my mom promised me a 2001 sb sweatshirt if I would stop wearing such a grungy sweatshirt in public)

That is about as close as it get around these parts.

Yes, at one time we did TDMMC shirts (two, if I remember correctly).
