Title: Who Would Anger You at 6?
Post by: EDGECRUSHER on April 08, 2021, 08:36:27 am
Is there anyone that we draft at 6 that will anger you? Not that the player is bad but it would be a reach or the wrong guy? Like, drafting Waddle over Chase or Micah Parsons.

I think pretty much any DE or DL at #6 would make me think "wtf is this team doing?"

Anyone who's name isn't Pitts, Chase, Sewell, Smith, Waddle, Slater or Parsons.

In general, I prefer not to draft RBs high, as I believe it's a position that is limited in its ability to help you win, reliant so much on the quality of other players, and can be acquired for slightly reduced quality for greatly reduced capital.

Interestingly, the Dolphins have never had the #6 overall pick before.  I would be upset if they drafted any entire family with the #6 pick.  (waving at Ted Ginn and his grandma)

There are only a few that most want at 6 so there are a lot that would upset us. I'll go out on a limb though and say I'd be pissed if Justin Fields falls and we drafted him.

Who at 6 would anger me. Who is on first.

Was Ginn the worst Top 10 pick in franchise history or was that trading up for Dion Jordan?

This right here

Between Ginn, Jordan and Sammie Smith, I'll give it to Jordan.  The other two contributed at times.  Jordan contributed virtually nothing

You know what's messed up the most about the Jordan thing? We had the 12th pick and traded all the way up to #3 and all it cost us was the #42 overall pick. That's a hell of a trade and I was really excited when we made it and then we drafted an injured guy we didn't even need at the time. Everyone was shocked and for good reason. We used to be run by idiots, those days appear to be gone for now.

How Jeff Ireland managed to stay on as GM for six years is way beyond me.  He should've followed Tony Sparano out the door.  Your head coach and your GM are joined at the hip.  You never fire one and keep the other.  That ties your hands.

Ross is a good owner who cares about winning and spends out of his own pocket for things like stadium renovations, but he's not the best when it comes to knowing who the good football people are. He probably lucked out with Grier and so far it is working.

Ross knew he wasn’t an expert in football.  The one person who was available who he had absolute faith in was Bill Parcells.  Bill Parcells told Ross that Ireland would make a good GM.  Ross trusted BP.

Not an illogical chain of events for a new owner (who was also a lifelong Giants fan).

That whole time period was great and weird and terrible. Going from 1-15 to 11-5 and winning the division and then selling the team and Parcells leaving because of it. Makes you wonder what would've happened if he stayed.

Agree 100%.

Jordan was the biggest bust in Dolphins history, followed by daylight. If the Ring of Dishonor is ever updated he should be the first player entered... and Ireland the first non-player.

The ironic thing is Ireland actually did a great deal to move up to #3 for minimal cost, and then blew it on what could at best be described (at the time) as a luxury pick... I have to go back to see exactly what I wrote here, but I'm sure I did slam it as a luxury pick when the choice came in. I still cringe at that one, and his other choices whenever he moved up the draft (like Daniel Thomas who cost us three picks including a second). Where's the vomit emoticon when we need it?

Back to the topic...

I would be very disappointed (although maybe not exactly angry) if we used #6 on another cornerback, even if it is Surtain. That would be the definition of a luxury pick when we have critical needs that will be filled by one of the choices on the board who should be genuinely elite at the position (be it Pitts, Chase, Parsons or Smith).

Same deal with running back, although I may not be as upset if we used #18 on Najee Harris and that's depending on who else is there. I really got the feeling we missed out on who we were targeting last year when there was a big run on backs last year (I suspect it may have been Can Akers) and settled for Breda via trade, so if we pulled the trigger at #18 to get who we really want/need, so be it.

One advantage about these playmakers we are talking about, I'm guessing Tua has good amount of experience with the 'Bama prospects and has seen a fair bit of Chase and maybe Pitts from the bench the other side of the field. I'm guessing he has already passed his shopping list to Grier as to who he thinks are the best fit for the team out of the bunch.

I almost agree with that. If Trevor Lawrence gets caught smoking a bong and drops I'd take him to compete with Tua but otherwise agree.

If something happens to Lawrence that makes JAX, NYJ, and SF all say, "No thanks, we'll pass" on a top-5 QB prospect in league history, MIA had damn well better not burn the #6 pick on him.

It would be one thing if this were last year's draft and MIA needed a QB either way.  But drafting another QB at 6 locks in an outcome: MIA either wasted #5 last year or #6 this year.  That's a sucker's bet.

Wasting any time thinking about what to do if Lawrence falls to #6 makes about as much sense as me speculating what I would do if the Playboy Playmate of the Year shows up at my front door and offers me a BJ.  Both have about an equal likelihood of ever happening.  And if the Playboy Playmate of the Year WERE to show up at my front door and offer me a BJ, I would say, "No thanks because whatever it is that makes you consider me for this offer has to be bad enough that I want no part of it."  Same with Lawrence.  If he falls to #6, whatever it is that made him available at #6 has to be bad enough that I want no part of it.
