Receivers come down with bad case of the drops

DAVIE — The Dolphins quarterbacks once again failed to impress and their receivers didn't help on Tuesday. There were five dropped passes, including one by TE David Martin, who seems to have one every other day. WR Davone Bess' miscue was the real surprise. The rookie from Hawaii has caught everything thrown his way since the rookie mini-camp.

Parmele making a name for himself

The 1-2 punch of running backs Ricky Williams and Ronnie Brown may have added an uppercut. Rookie Jalen Parmele, a sixth-round pick out of Toledo, is separating himself from the pack of back-ups. Parmele hits the hole quickly and has the power to pick up the tough yards inside. He also has enough burst to bounce runs to the sideline. Parmele, not to be confused with former Dolphins Bernie Parmalee, should be fun to watch during the exhibition season.

Rookie has payback for Porter

A day after veteran linebacker Joey Porter knocked him on his heels, rookie left tackle Jake Long got revenge. After he wrapped on Brown to stymie a running play, Porter celebrated by pounding his fist into the turf. On the next play, Long pounded Porter, knocking the former Pro Bowler on his keister.

Quote of the day

"I don't have to hope. Every since the first day I put on the pads, I've been a leader in some capacity. The way I work and the way I play on Sundays, guys are going to follow." - Running back Ricky Williams, on whether he hopes to be a team leader.

Quarterback watch

Second-year pro John Beck and rookie Chad Henne shared snaps during team drills. Each had his moments - good and bad - and seemed to struggle with decision-making, especially in 7-on-7 drills when a player has three seconds to throw the ball before a buzzer sounds. Heading into the day, coach Tony Sparano said the three-man race was a dead heat. "I don't see anybody ahead of anybody right now," he said. Sparano said he'd like to see the competition among Beck, Henne and Josh McCown shake out as soon as possible, and definitely not drag on into the exhibition season.

Fresh face

G Donald Thomas: A sixth-round pick in April's draft, Thomas lined up with the first-team offensive line for the second straight practice. Sparano said the 6-foot-4, 310-pound Thomas, who didn't play high school football, made an immediate impression on the veterans. "Coming off the field (Monday), a couple of our defensive players thought, 'He's really heavy,' " Sparano said. "And when a defensive player says 'really heavy,' he doesn't mean heavy in size, he means heavy when he hits you and when he leans on you."

Injury update

CB Michael Lehan (ankle) sat out and still has not practiced yet. He worked on physical therapy drills on the sideline Tuesday.

OG Steve McKinney (knee) has missed a few practices, including the Monday evening session. He was back out there Tuesday, even lining up at center with the second-team offensive line.

TE Aaron Halterman (back) sat out Tuesday's practice and is being evaluated.

Gaining ground

WR Greg Camarillo: The hero of last season's only win, Camarillo is standing out at a crowded position. He runs good routes, gets open and doesn't drop anything. On Tuesday, Camarillo made the catch of day, a one-handed stab in the middle of the field behind LB Channing Crowder to save a potential overthrow by Beck.

Losing ground

CB Andre Goodman: After ending the past two seasons on injured reserve, Goodman is starting opposite Will Allen and is coming off a strong off-season. But Tuesday wasn't his best day. He gave up a long pass down the sideline from Beck to WR Ted Ginn Jr. He also was beaten badly on an intermediate post route by WR David Kircus. But the Kircus catch happened in 7-on-7 drills when the offense has a big advantage.

Looks lik trading Booker for a fourth rounder, only to grab Parmele in the sixth round turned out to be a stroke of geinus.

Parmele has the size and bulk to be an every-down back.  Booker does not.

Parmele really has been a nice surprise in camp, so far.

Parmele is a nice surprise and if one of the starting two go down it would be nice if he could fill that void.

I think Bess will be our number three WR by the start of the season.  I see him doing what that sellout Wes Welker did for those godforsaken Patriots did last year.  Then again my grandmother could do that if I had a Randy Moss on my team.

I really hope Thomas pans out at Guard.  It is the only position on the OL that I have been worried about and if he pans out watch out everyone....we'll have one of the best OL in football.  Just look what Ronnie Brown did last year (before the injury) with a mediocre OL.
