Teaching pro single candidate in schools?

I already said I wasn't going to bring creationism up, Jim. Yes, it was how I came up with the question. No, I am not going to throw in "Well, creationism isn't bla bla bla." We've been there, done that.

I thought this was a prelude to justifying the teaching creationism/intelligent design.  If not, my apologies.

I don't see how a teacher can teach about the candidates accurately without biasing their "facts" toward or away from one candidate or another.  I don't think there should be any discussion about the candidates themselves in schools at all, but simple facts.  Here's the process, here's how it works, and this is who's running. 

But why teach about the candidates at all? You can learn the process without worrying about policies.

In my 7th grade class, we simulated an election.

We picked two candidates to role play.

And then we gave them an envelope with fake cash in it.

We learned what it was for a polictician to take a bribe .

Yes you could have a discussion about what the QB does, what a left tackle does but the whole thing would get real boring pretty quick. 

I don't think a school should focus on the minute policy differences between each candidates platform, but there is an election going on and to make it interesting there needs to be some discussion of the folks running for President.

You are looking at this completely wrong. You already know football (you just suck at choosing a team to root for) so of course the conversation is boring. A person with no football knowledge could give a shit about the names, because they are meaningless to them. Once they understand the game of football itself they can then learn to grasp the names, but the names are menaingless before basic knowldege is conveyed. It is the same with teaching the election process (pointing out that I am speaking about younger students). Time and energy do not need to be spent teaching the candidate's policies while discussing the election process. These kids cannot vote, it leaves wiggle room for the teachers to get in trouble, can lead to breakdown of the lesson (my daddy says this, well my daddy says that), etc.

Haven't you seen clips of the football 101 classes women take? They seem pretty enthused and not bored at all.

I don't think an opinion should be given either for or against anyone. That's not the schools job.

I agree with you.  Too bad that many, if not most, public school employees don't.

Huh?  Since when did you have to take a class to learn about football?  All you have to do is ask a football fan (preferably an attractive one) and ask them to explain the game to you.   

I wonder how I can cash in on this racket?  Anyone want to start a football class with me?
