2011 NFC East Champions!

« on: November 11, 2008, 11:43:22 am »

Not that this comes as a shock, but this division is completely horrible this season (and usually every season).

San Diego blows. 4-5, and they almost lost to the Chiefs. They are less than mediocre
Denver Broncos suck. 5-4, and they let high school QB Brady Quinn slice their intramural defense up like Peyton Manning vs. the Lions. Unnaceptably pathetic. Their offense is great one week, shit the next
Oakland Raiders are a disgrace to the NFL
Kansas City Chiefs are god awfully horrible.

Can we, for 2008 only, not allow 1 team into the playoffs from this division, and award an extra wild card spot to the other 3 divisions?

NFC West isn't any better.  Arizona is 6-3, isn't everyone else 2-7?

Has there ever been a team that made the playoffs with a sub .500 record?

Yep.  I am pretty sure some 7-9 teams have gotten in before.

In 2006, Seattle won their division with an 8-8 record.

Yep.  I am pretty sure some 7-9 teams have gotten in before.

8-8 is the worst regular season record to make the playoffs...in a non-strike season, anyway, and a number of teams have done that...including the '85 Browns, who faced Miami in the first round of the playoffs.

In '82, when the NFL went on strike after week 9, the NFL did the fluke thing where they increased the number of teams in the playoffs to 8 per conference to make up for money lost. There were two teams with losing records to make the playoffs that year, Detroit and Cleveland, who were both 4-5.

Denver will win out this year. That's 12 wins. What's the issue?

The worst part about it is that the AFC West and NFC West are both matched up against the AFC East (a division that was just as putrid in 2007) this year, and on top of that, the only good team in the AFCE lost their MVP starting QB 8 minutes into the season.  Yet even against this sorry division, the AFCW and NFCW are getting their asses kicked.

If the league has a few 7-3 or better teams at week 10, then there are surely a few 3-7 or worse teams.  The weak division thing seems to rotate around the NFL.  The AFC West just happens to be this year's version of the NCAA's ACC.  Nobody in the division is dominant and the worst doesn't have any trouble beating first.
