I disagree with both of these.  Ricky is a playmaker on his last year, and he's not too expensive.  Cobbs is the kind of guy I want to embrace on this team.  He's clutch, he's great away from the ball, and he catches balls out of the flat, as well as playing special teams.  You can't let him go, especially not for nothing.

Ricky is a serious turnover liability and will have to be replaced anyway.  He was mostly explosive because he was playing with Ronnie and the O-line was playing well.  His running style does not lend to his ability to stay healthy.

Cobbs is a good player and has a some time left in his legs, but many of his big plays have come from scheme rather than skill.  He is coming off of a bad injury for a running back, but only time will tell how he looks.  I never really felt like he was all that fast, more of a tweener guy that can fill many roles.  I would want explosive guys at his position, not tweeners.  However, I would be fine with waiting through training camp or preseason to make a decision on him.

I actually want to replace Ricky or Cobbs (mostly Ricky) with a younger guy with speed and someone who offers a change up to Ronnie.  I understand people liking Ricky, but I (even if I am alone) believe we can do better and without paying a ton.

I don't think it's fair that Ricky is pegged for an injury problem, when in fact, he's carrying the load after TWO other RBs got injured and out for the season (Ronnie and Cobbs).  Ricky is a GREAT player when in a limited role.  10-20 carries a game is what you need from him, as a change of pace back.  But he shouldn't have to shoulder the load for the entire game.

I agree, but I don't think that this is the year for that.  You have a productive player at the position who's leaving next year.  Handle it then.  You need to spend your resources on so many other things at the moment.  And besides, if you re-sign Ronnie, you're not going to need a guy to step in and be a starter right away, so in my opinion, it's better to let Ricky's contract expire, send him off a hero, and bring in a new guy under "clean" circumstances.

I'm the best GM ever in the history of GM (Yes, THAT "GM", too).

keep either Bess or Hartline (not both) for play in the slot and make a training camp decision on Turner vs Camarillo.

How many games have you actually seen this season?

Bess and Hartline are COMPLETE different players. Hartline would probably not make a very good slot receiver. He has a lot of potential and is on a 4-year deal with salary next year that's barely league minimum. NO WAY would I get rid of Hartline (unless someone offered some serious trade value).

Bess is a restricted free agent. I think the right thing to do is see if we can reach a deal with him, otherwise it's going to be Welker all over again. And like with Welker, Bess just isn't worth a high tender (1st+3rd round tender: $3M, 1st round tender: $2.4M, 2nd round tender: $1.7M -- compare to franchise value of close to $10M). Since he was undrafted, those are the options other than a straight right-of-first-refusal without compensation, but poison pills make that a no-go.

Turner is garbage. So much so that he can't even make the team.

1.) I agree, and Disagree with what Philly Said...I tottally agree that we don't have alot of trade worthy players, and people usually over value them out the ass..IE anyone Giving us didly for Ginn....I think you can make trades, but be realistic....I left out I'd shop Crowder around to see if I could something out of him, before he's tottally worthless...

2.) I have alot of problems here...(I'm gonna do what I hate most)
I would keep or trade Ginn (would not release), keep either Bess or Hartline (not both) for play in the slot and make a training camp decision on Turner vs Camarillo.
Your decision is made for you,Bess (according to FYO's post) will be a RFA only signing a two year deal being an undrafted free agent...Hartline was a rookie this year, and signed a 4 year deal...

Quote
2nd priority - Get a true and impactful free safety.  If Clemons appears to be able to fill that role, then I would allow that to happen.  I would consider trading Bell (high value) and moving Wilson to strong safety (I know you guys won't like this, but Wilson is really a pretty solid strong safety).  Jason and Will Allen also become expendable/tradeable.

Bell has Value? 31 year old Safety, that has had career year in INTS? We just resigned Will Allen last year to a new deal...unfortunately as much as we all pretty much want to cut Gibril,we did sign him to nice fat contract....

Quote
4th priority - Make room for a dedicated Kick/Punt returner that can be dangerous.  If not available, use Ginn 50% and find someone other than Bess that is on the roster to fill the other 50%.

6th priority - Find a speedy (change up type) running back.  Not sure if Cobbs or the other RB we picked up can fill that role.

You're dumping Cobbs,and Bess already,both do kick/punt returns

Quote
Release Porter and move Taylor into his role.
Release Pennington.
Release Nalbone or release/trade Haynos
Release Ricky Williams and likely release/trade Cobbs for someone faster
Release either Allen if not tradeable and try to find someone who is flexible between nickle and outside corner.  Would love if Will Allen would be satisfied in non-starting role (but doubt it).
Replace either Anderson or Moses with better overall play ability.
I would try to get good trade value out of Will or Jason Allen (must be replaced), any one of our D-ends, Y Bell or possibly Wilson, any one of our inside linebackers (if being replaced), any of our receivers.

Definite don'ts...

Don't allow Ronnie to go without a replacement that isn't already on this roster.
Don't make any changes to our current active QB roster.
Don't let Crowder go unless being replaced with someone outstanding.
Don't modify any of the O-line starters.
Don't allow Polite to go.
Don't allow Fasano to go without an excellent replacement (he is a very good #2 tight end).
Don't release Ginn without acquiring another speedy receiver.
Don't get rid of Taylor this year.

on your Do's
Porter/taylor issue- Dump the Younger more expensive guy under contract? The Problem is here they are the Same, they play the same postition, they're both old Pass rushers, neither can really cover worth a darn...

Trade Haynos? what Value does he have Zilch....

Don'ts
Don't replace this guy with out having an exellent/outstanding guy? Huh? How do you know if they're good till they're on your team...You don't have the roster space to do what you're suggesting....and not realistic at all....

Don't make any changes to the O-line? maybe you haven't noticed we're constantly rotating our players..we don't have 5 starters.....

Already mentioned the Will Allen,Yerimiah Bell issue....

The Biggest Complaint....
3.) This thread has horrid timing, we have all offseason to argue this stuff, there's still one game left in the season, and the NFL is uncharted water with the possibility of an uncapped year, which 95% don't have a clue on how it might effect our moves this offseason....

P.S. I agree with Dave Ricky is ok, as long as he's not the focal point of the offense..I would like to have a home run threat at Running back, but I'm not will to trade,or spend a high pick for him....

Modified to add, Doc,I'm sorry if my post comes off as an attack,I don't mean it too..It's just alot of stuff doesn't make sense to me....I think we see the team from very different points of view....

Capped or uncapped. Even with one more game, its evident LilB what Miami has and doesn't have. We've watched them for 15 games now and they are who they are.

The LB's are old and Crowders foot injury spells the end of him in Miami or maybe his career.

Joey Porter and Jason Taylor need to be cut. Their spots needs to go to someone younger.

Cobbs might not come back strong as ever and Ricky is only good for 10 carries a game. I agree with Dave to keep Ricky and let him go out as a hero

Miami needs a game breaking receiver. Ronnie Brown could walk or get traded.

We need younger safeties. Bell is 31 and we've been lucky the last two years that he's been injury free.

Yes, you're right but capped or uncapped, those are still the things that Dolphin brass have to address.

Lil B - No insult taken.

Bell, Will Allen, and Wilson all have reasonable trade value and their contracts aren't unsurmountable for other teams to deal with.  As I stated before, Wilson would be the least value but worth shopping none the less.  If you don't think Bell has value, we probably won't see eye to eye on anything.  I think you are making too much of his age.

Return guys change all the time, we could change our returners any time and think nothing of it.  Cobbs and Bess are very average (being kind) returners.  It wouldn't take much to find someone to better fill their roles.

Taylor showed me good things this year.  He still has true playmaking ability.  I just happen to think that keeping them both is bad and getting rid of them both is probably not for the best either.  Taylor did better in pass coverage than I expected.  IMO, Taylor is better than Porter.  This is not a decision made out of being a fan.

Haynos would only have value in a multi player deal and although I agree it would be unlikely it would be worth considering/trying.

It is definately possible to know what kind of player you are getting before he is on your team.  Good players get released or traded every year.  Examples: Shockey and Gonzales.

Roster spots are made by cutting players when other players are obtained, I don't understand why you think there isn't room.  I am not talking about developing a rookie and even if I were the offseason roster size would allow it.

Our O-line was fantastic untill they started rotating!  The rotation began with injuries and continued once everyone was healthy.  Our starters are overall very good.

Everyone have a great new year - I am out.
