Quarterbacks get WAY too much credit for wins and losses. They are the single most important player on the team, I don't question that, but they are still just part of the puzzle.

Look, I'm not sold on Henne. Far from. If I were to give odds on him "having what it takes", those odds have become longer after this season.

That said, I just don't see "quarterback" as our biggest issue.

IMHO:

#1: Offensive play-calling.
#2: O-line... everyone but Long (elite) is suspect.
#3: Defensive line
#4: Whole defensive backfield
#5: "MLB" type

Next year or two, running back is going to be an increasing problem. The DBs are quite young (3 of 4 starting DBs are in their 2nd year) and might improve without new players having to be brought in, but I don't know.

After that, feel free to add quarterback to the list of problems.

I don't buy the defensive line is a problem. The Dolphins are 6th best in the league on yards per carry and ninth best in sacks (I realize those are coming from positions outside the d-line but that is how the 3-4 scheme is designed). We may lack big time names, but I think the d-line is producing what we need from them.

Dolphins are also 31st in points scored and 7th in point allowed.  The defense is doing its job.  Offense is not getting enough production.  Miami should focus on the offense not the defense this off-season.  Not saying ignore the defense where improvement can be made, but you would be better off improving the o-line than d-line.

A lot of that low yards per carry is thanks to Dansby, who's a freakin' monster cleaning up everything that gets through the d-line. That lowers the average quite a bit.

When I'm watching the games, I just don't see our line getting much of a push...

We are 21st in yards/attempt allowed in running plays marked middle or (offensive) guard. That's a sign of a weak defensive line. Feel free to argue about exactly who to blame, but clearly the job isn't getting done.

Which is why my top 2 concerns were on OFFENSE.

Points scored and points allowed are not unrelated, by the way. With the exception of the Patsies, no team runs up the score on a regular basis, instead becoming much more conservative when ahead. I'm NOT saying our D is weak, merely that points allowed is skewed by our offense and its inability to put points on the board.

IMO, running back deficiencies should be at the top of the last.  Ricky does a good job for his age at the #2 spot, but Brown Stinks.  I am so tired of seeing him dance side to side three times before he even reaches the line.  Run damnit!!

^^^ Gotta agree with that, Ronnie and Ricky both have been disappointing this season. Quite a few good RBs in this draft class though, and a TON of outstanding O-linemen. I think if Miami wants to improve their running game for next year (and beyond), the draft seems like a good way to go (rather than recycling some used up FA's).

I'm of the mindset, that you never get complacent with any position on a football team...Just because you're the best running team in the league doesn't mean it will necessarily mean you'll be the best the next year...

My quick comments...(off the top of my head)

I think we're missing the Stud center, he's your captain of the offensive line, calling protections for the line...Berger is the depth guy, that was supposed to push Jake Grove for the center job.NE (plays every type of front, Jets play a 3-4,and the Bills according to CBS a 3-4. I think it makes it more important to be stout in the middle...I'm not saying drop a 1st round pick on one, but we need a Stud there

We need RB's,let's face it,we need a game changer...at least one, preferably two...Ricky, and Ronnie are both Free agents,Cobbs is signed,I'm not sure about Hillard, and Sheets...Ronnie starts dancing, and Ricky get's hauled down too easily anymore,or trips on the gust of wind ....

The D-Line, McDaniel is a FA,Starks was supposed to be our starting NT,and we don't know what we have in Odrick..That leaves Starks, Soliai (sp?) Baker,Merling,Langsford...

I can see a need at Saftey, MLB,More Corners

Modified to add...Err I see Masterfins, and Stroke just basicly covered what I said....Oops Embarrassed

IMO, running back deficiencies should be at the top

It seems like much of the problem with our running game (which isn't terrible, just average) is our offensive line. Run blocking is abysmal. Side-to-side speed is non-existent (and our tight ends can't contain),

We're #1 in short-yardage situations and top-10 in avoiding tackles for a loss... but we're LAST when it comes to yardage after the first 5 yards. R&R just never get to the second level without having 2-3 guys on them. And a big part of that is the offensive line needs to do a better job.

While I'm at it, we're a bit above average up the gut, average to downright terrible behind right tackle and further outside (both sides)... and very good behind left tackle (thanks Jake).

I'm going to take a jab at the play-calling here... because I'm convinced that's part of it...

Only ONE team runs less behind left tackle than we do! yet we're among the best! Why aren't we doing that more?Huh

KC is about as good as us behind left tackle and runs 50% more often (relatively). Houston is also right about where we are, yet run almost twice as often in that direction. Tampa runs THREE TIMES as often behind left tackle and is also about as successful at it as we are.

Why aren't we playing to our strengths?

Only ONE team runs up the gut (between the guards) more often than we do! ONE!

That's the kind of offensive innovation Henning is killing our team with.

It's infuriating that we're that predictable.
