That way teams like Charlotte or Washington that stunk on a regular basis would get a valuable “lottery” pick to add to their roster, but they wouldn’t be rewarded for being horrible.[/i]

The only problem with that, most of those lottery picks are not valuable players.

Without so much as a cursory glance at the numbers, I'd wager that the chances of getting a superstar-caliber player in the first 12 picks of round 1 (lottery) are a lot better than the chances of getting a superstar-caliber player in the last 12 picks of round 1... Wink

The Lottery blows. I understand the whole tanking theory (funny, people who don't believe in conspiracy theories...) I digress, but what if a team actually does suck huge donkey balls?  And why isn't the actual lottery shown? (conspiracy?  Grin

Anyway, found this interesting article on fixing the NBA Lottery:

I would do an inverted draft order so that the team with the best record that failed to make the playoffs would be given the top pick, while the team with the worst record would pick 14th. That way teams like Charlotte or Washington that stunk on a regular basis would get a valuable “lottery” pick to add to their roster, but they wouldn’t be rewarded for being horrible.

I think that would be a bad idea.  Harms the idea of parity.

I think the NFL has it right.
