Marlins fire Ozzie Guillen

Now watch him go to another team and within a couple years, that team is in the playoffs.

^^ yes.  They fired him to make him the scapegoat for having a disappointing season.  It has nothing to do with his Castro comments. 

Someone had to take the fall, and it was Ozzie.

They spent a hundred million dollars in the offseason to bring in Zambrano, Bell, Reyes, and Buehrle.  Zambrano fell flat, Bell was HATED by the fans (except this fan, I still like him and wish him well).  Buehrle and Reyes worked out.  But Bonifacio was hurt, Stanton got hurt, JJ started slow, Hanley wasn't hitting, and they never really had a starting CF, and in June the team fell apart.  Then they deal away Hanley, Infante, and Sanchez and LoMo got hurt and the whole season just melted.

The front office blames Ozzie, as they did with Girardi, Fredi, and all the other managers.  Personally, I think they need to look in the mirror.

I fully expect Ozzie to go somewhere and be in the postseason as soon as next season.

Not only this, but their farm system isn't producing any bountiful harvests.  I agree, the front office really needs to look in the mirror. 

Meanwhile, a few of former Marlins (Miguel Cabrera, Jim Leyland, Al Avila) are playing or coaching in the World Series beginning tonight.   

There are two teams in baseball I can't stand.  The Yankees for spending so much and the Marlins for spending so little and blaming it on others.

First of all, the Tigers have at least 5 former Marlins off the top of my head: Leyland, Cabrera, Infante, Sanchez, Dombrowski (yes he counts).  Alex Avila never played for the Marlins.

Secondly, the Marlins had a $118 million payroll this season, 7th highest in baseball.  Spending so little?  What more do you want for a team that no one supports?

Thirdly, the Marlins have a quite productive farm system.  Their entire team is made up from prospects.  Hernandez, Vilasquez, Solano, Fernandez, Yelich, Turner, and Brantley (granted they traded for those last two) are top prospects, many of which spent time in the majors late in the season.  There's plenty of guys in triple-A that will see time next season as well.

Al Avila was an assistant coach if I'm not mistaken.  And this year's payroll was an exception.  Previously, the Marlins were notoriously known for being penny pinchers.  It got to the point where they were actually exposed to have been pocketing the money they were receiving from revenue sharing.  As for former Marlins that are now with the Tigers, you came up with a couple more that I didn't name.

You do have a point there regarding payroll, but this is the first year it's happened.  If they can do that for the next 3-4 years, then I'll believe it.  However, I heard the attendance was really spotty after the novelty of the new stadium wore off, so I wouldn't be surprised if they cut payroll again.

This is the first year it's happened because it's the first year they are in their own stadium. Getting concession money, parking money, not paying a lease. That was all eating into their profits limiting their spending ability, it's simple accounting.

attendance was still WAY higher than years past.  They maybe drew 10,000 to a weeknight game, whereas last season they drew 2,000.  Not only that, but it fell off late in the season when they were out of it. 

Nothing cures attendance problems better than winning.  When the team is 20+ games out of the wild card in September, and there's still 10k people there to watch, that's magical for the Marlins.
