I think that David Goyer deserves a lot of credit.  He seems to "get" the things that make Superman are not the supernatural things, but the parts that make him want to be human.

Two things that make me especially excited, in terms of character:
1) "He'll be an outcast.  They'll kill him."  "How?"
2) "Can't I just keep pretending to be your son?"  "You are my son."

Both of those relationships with Jor-El and Pa Kent look like they're going to drive the film.  And the Kryptonian action looks dope.
