You never like bearing witness to a trainwreck. But, wow. She's battled issues most of her life. She apparently committed suicide on the very same porch that her longtime  boyfriend did last year. Reports are that she also killed her dog. It's too easy to chalk this up to drug abuse. But what I find interesting is that she is the third person to lose their life, from the season of Celebrity Rehab that she was on. Fifth overall. Hopefully, she's finally found peace.

Have to admit, I had to do a Google images search for Mindy McCready...never heard the name or seen the face before.

what I find interesting is that she is the third person to lose their life, from the season of Celebrity Rehab that she was on. Fifth overall.

I can also say that I've never heard of that show either...but I do tend to ignore 99.9% of all reality TV, just on principle.

This was one you could see coming. I assumed it would be an overdose though.

Just sad all the way around.

May her soul, and all the souls of the faithful departed, rest in peace.

Amen.

I hung out with Mindy a few times, back in my country radio days.  I don't know about now, but back in the 90's the labels would do anything to break a new artist.  "10,000 Angels" was just starting to take off and I brought her in to do an acoustic lunch in our conference room with a group of listeners and some clients.  I also had a chance to talk to her a few times in Nashville.

One night, I was out with a couple buddies and we wound up at Morton's.  One guy, who is now part of Faith Hill's mangement, got a little tanked.  Mindy was sitting at the table across from us with her boyfriend, who played for the Nashville Predators.  Damned if I remember the guy's name, but I do remember he was traded shortly after to Chicago and they broke up.  Anyway, my friend was into the scotch pretty well.  He kept cat calling Mindy, saying "you're a bad girl, you need a spanking!"  The only thing that kept him from getting killed was that he was, even then, a Nashville "known" and you never burn bridges.  But I remember thinking that her boyfriend was going to come over and stab us all with his steak knife.

It is really sad, her story.  Fame is what did her in.  She went from singing in bars in her little home town in Florida one day to all these sleeze balls in Nashville telling her she was the next Martina McBride or Shania Twain the next day.  All you had to do was listen to her stuff to know it wasn't true, once you got two cuts deep into her CD, it stunk.  She was never the same once she started down that path.

^^^ I had to look up who it was. According to Wikipedia it was Drake Berehowsky but he never played for the Blackhawks.

Interstingly enough, he is the coach of our Orlando Solar Bears.

I could have sworn he was traded to the 'Hawks!  Could be wrong.

All I know is he was not a happy boy that night.  If you ever meet him, ask him about that night.  I am sure he will remember it.  It isn't something someone forgets.

I guess anything is possible!  She could have just been out to dinner with the guy, too, but I thought he was her b/f at the time...
