Are there any strange quirks that you get perhaps more enjoyment out of than you should?  I'll give some examples:

- I really enjoy taking something that is out of commission (out of style, broken, worn out, etc) and finding a way to make it usable again.  This can be as simple as mending a tear in a duffel bag or refinishing and replacing hardware on a cabinet.  It doesn't even have to be a big job -- mending a button will do it.  I even like the battle-scars from this kind of thing.  I like the look of a used piece of clothing that has a patch or stitching where you can see that it was mended.

- I like using up the last of things.  When I get to the end of a tube of toothpaste, bottle of shampoo, or carton of orange juice, I feel a strange sense of accomplishment and get enjoyment out of crushing up and disposing of the container.  None was wasted and it's one less object taking up room.  This is especially true for anything in the bathroom taking up room in the shower or in a cabinet.

If there's an item (usually: a tool or adapter) that I've been hoarding for years and I finally come across a situation where it's needed, I feel a profound sense of pride.

I feel the same way about this.  The same goes for grading tests or papers.   It feels good to get that last one done.

At this point. A day of sunshine. I can't tell you the last time I saw an entire day of sunshine. I'm tired of The Endless Gray.

There's just something about the sun.
Be it, watching it rise over the ocean at The Cape. Or watching its reflection on the rivers on the causeways. Watching it set over the Franklin Mountains in El Paso. Or watching it finally rise in western Wisconsin on a terribly frigid morning. I just love the sun.

I like surprising people with little things.

A couple of weeks ago, I tried to arrange a group of friends to hang out.  I invited my friend Kirsten, but she couldn't come because she was working.  It had been her bday earlier in the month and we hadn't been able to celebrate it, so we were all disappointed.

My friend Leslie and I came up with an idea.  I bought a card and we all signed it when we were hanging out.  Then, I bought her a gift card.  After me and my friends had hung out, my friend Leslie and I drove to where she was working.  We parked and then walked to the store where Kirsten was working.  It was ten and nobody was in the store.  I knocked on the window.  Kirsten looked up and saw me and Leslie and she was completely surprised.  She told me later that she was completely surprised and had to do a double take when she saw us.  She told me it was so sweet of me and Leslie to surprise her like that.

I know this isn't exactly what you're asking...but it one of my little things...

Going to small towns, for work (going to my wife's house applies too),and seeing the main streets...Seeing that they don't have big box stores, starbucks, etc. Getting a taste the simpler life.
