In a perfect world you'd be right. But in the real world, a new GM would want to bring in"his guy" as coach

Didn't happen in NY with Rex, he survived and Tanenbaum didn't. Might not mean Rex has long on the job but he survived.  Doesn't always happen the way you say it does, there have been numerous times in the NFL where the coach survives and a new GM is brought in. Happens all the damn time in baseball and it does happen in football as well (just not as often.)  Philbin isn't getting fired if Miami is bad this year and no way in hell do they bail on Tannehill either if he has a bad year. That's nonsense, the expectations are still low for Miami. Be at or above .500 and fight for a playoff spot. Nobody expects a Super Bowl year. So even if its another 7-9 or 6-10 season, sure it will be disappointing but not enough to get Philbin fired or Tannehill cut/benched.

Ross's history since buying this team is to not fire people. He has stuck with Ireland when popular opinion was against him and while he had thoughts of firing Sparano he gave him a long extension instead of firing him and gave him another opportunity before eventually letting him go.

And like I said, Ross is MORE worried about his image than you can imagine. He wants the big sexy name guys but knows he needs to repair his horrible image or else he will never land the Peyton's, Fisher's, and those types. If he fired Philbin after 24 months and moves on from his Top 10 QB draft pick after 24 months, he is toast in the NFL. He isn't going to do that. Short of a 1-15 or 2-14 season, its not happening.

Did this come from an interview with someone who actually knows Ross, or are you just making an assumption here?  I ask because you didn't preface it with "I think that...," "I believe that...," "it seems like...," "it appears that...," or any of the other base terms that say "this is my opinion, rather than hard facts."

Love the enthusiasm here. It's the same thing Eagles fans said a few off seasons ago when they built their dream team. Let's try to keep things in perspective here. They haven't played a down of football yet, so there's no telling how much of an upgrade they made, and even with a "win now" team, Miami still likely doesn't have the best team in its own division. Until they unseat New England, I would approach the off season with reserved optimism, but little more. -3X

It's been widely reported

It's been widely reported

Interesting, as a deep (I went 6 pages deep) Google search of "stephen ross + worried + image" yields absolutely nothing of the sort. Could you point to one example among the many that would make up that "widely reported" claim? It just seems a lot less like a real news item, and more like a personal opinion of yours. Was it just widely reported once on a random AM sports talk station at 3 AM or something? When something is "widely reported," it's usually pretty easy to find a report, as they are, you know...wide.

Translation: I know you like to assume that your opinions are directly translatable to fact, but you might want to learn how to use one or more of those opinion-based modifiers I noted in my previous post:

"It seems like...Ross is MORE worried about his image than you can imagine."
"It appears to me...that Ross is MORE worried about his image than you can imagine."
"I believe...that Ross is MORE worried about his image than you can imagine."

Practice using those...and I'll stop asking for supporting links to your "widely reported but nowhere to be found" information.

That depends entirely on who is brought in.  When considering scenarios in which the GM and HC would both be shown the door, the names "Cowher" and "Gruden" come to mind.

I firmly believe that Cameron would not have been fired if Parcells didn't come on board.

That was my point Spider. That just because Ireland is fired doesn't mean Philbin will be let go as well. It depends on who is brought in.

Cowher and Gruden have already turned Ross down once to even interview, don't see them ever being on his radar again

I have mentioned Dawn Aponte before on this site and many people always ask me "WHO?" Here is a good article on her and her role with the Fins which most fans don't know. And how much power and say she has within the Dolphins organization right now. She was also technically Ross's first hire and he will never fire her according to some.

A really interesting read, thanks Mike. Have to admit though I really didn't like one of the readers responses that we may be salary cap hell again in a year or three - any substance to this?

They are NOT in salary cap hell in a year. That is a myth. Now will they be able to do what they did this offsesaon, of course not. Can't do that every year. But they are NOT in salary cap hell next year. Starks and Soliai will both be gone. Maybe they keep 1 of them, maybe.

All 3 South Florida newspapers now reporting Miami's plan last night was Austin at #12 and if he wasn't there Eifert according to sources inside the organization

BUT  Ireland found out by watching TV one analyst say the Raiders phones aren't ringing while they were on the clock, so he picked it up and gave them a call just to see what it would take. That's how "non-planned" and "last minute" this was last night with that trade
