The Oakland Raiders have fired coach Dennis Allen, the team confirmed Monday night.

Allen was 8-28 as Oakland's coach. He was fired after the Raiders, who retooled their roster this offseason, started 0-4.

FoxSports.com reported the news earlier Monday night.

Oakland has lost an NFL-high 10 straight games dating back to last November and is 0-4 for the first time since 2006 when it finished with the worst record in the NFL. The final straw for Allen was an embarrassing 38-14 loss to Miami on Sunday in London. The Raiders are on their bye week.

The failure to be competitive was what doomed Allen. Oakland owner Mark Davis, who took control of the franchise when his legendary father, Al, died in November, 2011, was on the record saying he was tired of the team losing in lopsided fashion. That didn't change this season. The Raiders lost by 20 or more points in nine of Allen's 36 games as coach.

Philbin should look at that man and think, "There but for the grace of God go I."  Personally, I think it's pretty messed up to give a coach a rookie QB and then fire him 4 games in.

Dang, losing to the Dolphins must be considered an unforgiveable sin in the NFL.   Grin

With a record of 8-28 it seems they fired him 36 games in (with 10 straight losses). Perfectly sensible firing if you ask me.

Yeah, and it's not just that they lost.  They aren't competitive.  Everyone uses Jacksonville as rock bottom -- but it's not -- it's Oakland.

When you have this kind of coaching going on, you gotta go.

I would have been fine with firing him last offseason, but if you are going to bring him back and then hand him a rookie QB, it's silly at that point to expect immediate results.

It's like, if MIA drafts Mallett in 2011 and immediately starts him, why then fire Sparano if the team starts off 0-4?  There's a conflict of interest for the coach there; starting a rookie QB is never the best solution if you need to win right now.

Speaking of rookie QBs and Jacksonville, the clock on the seat heater for Gus Bradley has started ticking

Well they have spent money on Flynn and Schaub.  Whoever thought those guys were going to be the answer should be the one fired, not sure if it was Allen.

They should be able to narrow the future losses if they appoint Sparano as the interim HC, at least he will get them pumped to kick some field goals.

No doubt.  When you look up and see 1 corner covering 3 guys in the red zone with MAYBE 1 safety rolling over to help, it might be a good idea to quickly call a time out.

Double fist pump every time the Polish Powder Keg (Janikowski) kicks a long field goal.

Well one corner faked the blitz on that play and dropped back into coverage, but the other one did blitz and almost tipped the pass.

Still, the Raiders only covered this play with 2 guys several times and got beat several times.

The one time they did cover it with three, the Dolphins faked the screen and went to the other way to Daniel Thomas. Unfortunately, Dion Sims got called for PI.
