Has your view of the Dolphins (or whatever NFL team you follow) affected your view or interest in other teams?

The reason I ask is because I went to a Panthers hockey game the other day specifically to stick it to the Dolphins.  We'd shit the bed against the Jets, I was frustrated listening to AM radio and saw a billboard for the Panthers opener.  At the same time, there was an ad on the radio.

I'm not the biggest fan of watching hockey, but I like it OK.  And I thought "screw it"...they're trying to get better and the Dolphins have been screwing me for years...why not?   So, I reached out to Brian Fein and he has tickets, so we went.  It was fun.

I've also had an increased interest in fantasy football, pick'em leagues, college football, college basketball, and MMA and I think that part of it is that I can watch the games and not get pissed off.  My enjoyment of the Dolphins has moved more into hanging out and having a BBQ than really enjoying football.

On top of that, I have been watching the HEAT very closely over the last few seasons.  They are just such a well oiled machine that it really shines a light on how poorly things have gone for the Dolphins.  Even when they aren't winning, you still feel like there's a plan you can get behind.  The perception is that even if we aren't good right now, next year we'll get them.  And you always feel competitive, if not good.

The Dolphins are still my first and biggest love, but I have tired in my old age of the grind and some other things have started to fill that void.

I feel kind of the opposite.  I kinda go with what you said about the Heat, that watching other teams has kind of affected my view of the Dolphins.

Take your example of the Panthers.  I'm glad you had fun, btw - we can go again any time. The Panthers have a crop of young prospects from the 2010 draft and beyond.  They have players on the team now that were high picks in every draft since 2010.  This year, they are starting to pay off.  Makes sense.

To me, this highlights the Dolphins' ineptitude over the past several years of drafting.  I think the Dolphins have only like 22 players on the team that were drafted by them.  That's roughly 40% of the roster.  And half of that was drafted in the past 2 seasons.  Compare that with the Panthers where it just seems like they have more draft success and it translates into emerging talent on the ice.

I just don't know how the Dolphins got so bad at drafting - and retaining - talent.

No, I have always been a fan of other sports. I watch hockey, NBA, NCAA football and basketball, and Orlando City games every week. I really don't think anything could cause me to pay more attention to sports outside of the Dolphins.
