I'm not the type of guy who is into Ozzy's music, in general.

However, I've always liked Ozzy as an ambassador and I think he aged really well from being a crazy youth to a more reserved older guy who still could perform.  He helped usher in reality TV in a way that didn't make him look like a total ass-hat, which, for an old guy is pretty interesting.  I thought he was a good interview -- I saw him on Stern a few times.

I also think that Goodbye to Romance is one of the best songs ever written.

So, RIP -- I'm playing that song today.

I was a fan of Ozzy and even Black Sabbath for that matter. He lived a pretty whacky life. It was rumored a couple of weeks ago that he and Sharon went to Europe for euthanasia after performing one last concert.  There was supposedly a suicide pact but as far as I know that didn't happen. I'm sure more news will come out.

RIP Ozzy

Wow, he dies one day after Theo from The Cosby Show dies.   RIP to Ozzy and MJ Warner.

I know it happens, but it's very strange to me that otherwise healthy adults can just drown.

With or without ketamine?

Ignoring the drug factor involved with another TV celebrity, living down under, we are all made very aware of the dangers of swimming (even sober). It's not just sharks, rays, jellyfish, sea snakes, stonefish, and crocodiles either that can kill you...

The surf is a dangerous thing. We have lifeguards and flags for a reason. You stay within the flags and within your own limitations, because if you get caught in a strong rip/current, then you're basically on your own. If you get help, count yourself lucky.

You obviously have never been caught in an undertow. If you fight it you will tire and drown. Happens all the time especially without lifeguards on duty. You have to ride it out and swim parallel to shore in order to save energy until you can swim back in.

Ignoring what drug factor? I have seen 0 reports regarding drugs. Where do you get your news?

Yeah, no shit.  It's like the first lesson you learn when you're 5 years old.

That's what I'm saying.  How do adults drown, especially in the ocean where you can just stop and you'll float there?  If he was on drugs or something, fine, but it's like swimming 101 not to fight the current.

That was a reference to Matthew Perry (which is why I said another TV celebrity).

I know it was a joke in poor taste.  Embarrassed

I agree.   Especially Florida parents where no matter where you are, you're never more than an hour's drive from a beach.   My parents taught me that when I was little and it actually happened to me when I was 16.  A rip current got me on New Smyrna Beach.   Thankfully, I was in good physical condition and followed their advice and it worked.

People have a tendency to panic when caught in a rip tide.  Something like 4000 Americans drown every year.

Not sure how it doesn't happen in south Florida but it happens all the time in New Smyrna, Daytona, and Cocoa Beaches. It keeps the lifeguards hopping. I'm guessing you are just oblivious to how many rescues there are each week. I know on some weekends up here they report almost 100 people having to be rescued.

"Volusia County beach safety officials have reported thousands of ocean rescues due to rip currents, which are a type of undertow. For example, in 2022, they reported 2,175 ocean rescues, and at least 1,297 of those were rip current related. In 2023, they reported 1,305 ocean rescues, with 741 being rip current related, according to the Daytona Beach News-Journal."

I think I'm more of a fan of Ozzy's music than I let on.  I don't really think of myself as a fan, but since he died, I've put on a little bit of Sabbath and Ozzy here and there, but iso is everyone else.  I was in the comic store the other day and they were just playing it over the speakers and it was song after song of things I knew and liked, but had kinda forgetten.

So, that's been a good experience for me.
