Wow, I had a interesting year...

As I (may) have mentioned, my work closed up after 36 years of being fully employed in October 2024, and I spent practically a full year with no work and meager unemployment benefits. I was lucky enough to have completely paid off my house and didn't have to deal with a mortgage or rent, but it was still very tough - fortnight to fortnight living, in what is still a very lucky position (I cannot imagine the situation of those without the safety net that I had in Australia with the cost of living pressures, let alone overseas).

After having people blow smoke up my arse about how talented I was and I should find a job immediately, and a year of no work, doing study courses going nowhere, then I found another job through a friend of a friend, and after my first genuine job interview in 12 months, they immediately said, when can you start? For twice the money I was being paid.

In between I also had a good friend die of a particularly aggressive cancer. It's something I am still dealing with, both as a lucky cancer survivor a decade ago with my own battle going 2 years, along with losing my Father in an aggressive manner within about 4 months after diagnosis.

Crazy, roller-coaster year. I'm still dealing with it.

ups and downs

My job is going alright picking up shifts to be helpful even though now it's turning into a pysch ward with all of the behaviors of the resident.

Mentally i have had a few anxiety issues that prevented me from working some of my shifts at work. My dog that i have had since he was 1 1/2 crossed the rainbow bridge on June 30th, He was dealing with seizures that started in February and I was giving him medication to help control it but he must have had just one too many.

So all in all could certainly have been better

I feel like 2025 was a terrible year, but I think it was all anxiety for bad things that never actually fully came to fruition.  My work situation was sketchy but I'm employed, politically things were awful but the wheels didn't completely fall off, and the health situation for the older people in my family looked dark but turned out ok.

So, it was a year that seemed worse than it was, I guess.
