After one very good year for the Mets, New York might be finding out the hard way why Boston refused to sign the guy to a long term deal.

Pedro's toe has been bothering him since his days with Boston and is only getting worse.  He has stated that at some point he'll need surgery, although it's not in his plans right now.  Pedro missed a handful of starts last season because of the injury and also had to make changes to his delivery.

Pedro still hasn't throw one pitch this spring, only long toss to test out special shoes designed to protect the toe.  Of the ones he's tried "none have helped" according to a Mets source.

Pedro has already admitted that he won't be 100% this season.  Sure sounds like a sound 53 million dollar investment to me!

Deion Sanders II ? What the hell ? A toe ? You can't get you toe fixed with the 6 months of offseason ? What a joke.

He pitched like a Cy Young winner last year, so if that is what he means by "not being 100%", the Mets will take it.

Everyone knew the Mets overpaid by a year and were willing to do so. So far, he has paid off. I think 28 starts of last year's caliber justifies his 2006 salary, if he can do that.
