Doom 2 was really cool. EXTREMELY cool, even. But today, I have no interest in playing it. After I’ve played Goldeneye, which trumped Doom 2, and now Halo, I can’t revert back. The game doesn’t hold up anymore, and I’m not just talking about graphics. The limited movement doesn’t compare to latter games. Punch Out still can be fully enjoyed. It’s the same game today as it was then. The graphics are a little dated, but the gameplay holds up, and most of all – it’s fun.
Tex’s take:
I remember Doom 2 coming out, and having no interest in it. It came out seemingly as Windows 95 made its gigantic imprint on society, exploding the computer software industry. 1st person shooter type games have to be near perfect as far as game play is concerned. IMO, this game has made it way too far down the road in this bracket. Mike Tyson’s Punch Out for NES was moderately fun, and still is somewhat fun today. I’m not a big fan of either game to be completely honest, but my vote goes for Tyson’s punch-out here.
