Pitchers on the market

These are the "big names" that will most likely get moved before the break:  Livan Hernandez, John Smoltz, Greg Maddux, Tim Hudson, Dontrelle Willis, Paul Byrd, Ramon Ortiz.

Had Kerry Wood not flamed out again, you could add his name to that mix. 

If I were a betting man, I would think that Detroit will end up with Smoltz.  He's basically said he would only go there and the Tigers could put together a nice package for him.

The Red Sox have been talking to Atlanta for a while about Hudson, and he would be a real nice fit in Boston.  Toronto is also interesting in Tim, both teams have the prospects Atlanta might be looking for.  Paul Byrd is a name that should float up in Boston as well, with Boston's defense he could really do well and come cheap.

Livan Hernandez is a wild card.  There could be something wrong with the guy and the year he's having...a team like Texas might reach on this one. 

Willis is going to take a lot to get.  I think the Mets might have a lead in that race.

Cool. When you get a chance can you also list some 'decent' bullpen arms who are available ? The Yankees need about 3 or 4 guys.

i think "a lot" is an understatement for willis .. the marlins are alot better than anyone expected and look to make a strong playoff push next season .. willis will be part of it

I really hope you are right, but for the right mix of prospects - they will deal him.

Seriously - looking at the Yankees "haves" and the Marlins "needs" - they are going to want players that can come in and make an impact now (ala Hanley R).  They won't give up an arm unless they get one.  All that said, I wouldn't be shocked to see the Yankees deal Cano and Wang for Willis if Cabby is included in the deal.

If "Cabby" is included in the deal? Only "Cabby" I know that's teamed up with Dontrelle is Miguel Cabrera, and if the Fish trade Dontrelle and Miggy after watching the rest of the kids battle their asses off all season...well, I won't be highly amused. At all...

I really don't see it happening though... Jim Jennings, the Marlins' VP of Personnel, was on their pregame show last week and made some very plain comments about Cabrera being one of the players they want to keep and build on for the future. He was responding to some trade rumor that was going around about the Cardinals wanting to swing a deal for Miggy.

That was the rumor going around...originally noted by Peter Gammons in his blog. The Card's were trying to get a third team involved to make the trade work. Florida would have gotten a very good rookie pitcher (A-Reyes) in the deal they were talking about.

I know that Maine is probably gonna slap me down for such blatant baseball heresy, but I think the Marlins are sitting just fine with young pitching prospects. Between Josh Johnson, Ricky Nolasco, Scott Olsen, Anibel Sanchez, etc..., I think FL is OK in that particular area. Now we just need to build a potent offense around them. Dealing Miguel Cabrera for more young pitching just seems like overkill.

I honestly don't think we do, we just need a manager who doesn't suck with the bullpen. He trusts guys too much and doesn't use others enough. Matt Smith was brought up a few weeks ago and he hasn't given up a run. Everything he was asked to do, he did and he hans't been used in God knows how long. TJ Beam needs more oppurtunities too.

Overworking Proctor and now knowing that Farnsworth is useless is killing the team. I think we have the arms to be fine.
