Do you encounter rude coworkers at your place of employ?  Rude such as...

Example 1: walking down the hall wall and passing a co worker.  You smile and say hi.  They look up at you and don't say a word or even acknowledge that you said a word.  They keep on walkin' as though you aren't even there.

Example 2:  Talking in the door way to the break room and then shoot off a dirty look when someone says "excuse me" to get into the break room.

What is your workplace like?

I don't consider #1 to be that rude...it's fairly commonplace, imo.

#2, however...I don't deal with dirty looks very well. I'd stop there and ask him what his problem is, more than likely.

I work from home. Sometimes I wish there was a rude co-worker around.

Every day.We have sort of a double standard where i work.If you are from here and are a member of the "bubba/good ol boy/I ain't doin' shit today" clique, you have carte blanche.Meaning you can literally get right in someone's way that is trying to do a good job and stop and b.s. with your buddy. If you are not a member of said group, you are an automatic "ass kisser",company man, whatever. The guys I work with are unreal, they cannot be convinced that unless the company is making money, you can have all of the union you want,no company= no union=no job.

[sexism]

I always get along with everyone with whom I work.  I am easy to get along with, do what I'm told, have no problem with authority, etc.  I don't take shit personally either, and don't really get offended.  Sometimes, people annoy me or I find them irritating, but I hide it well.

Because of that, in the workplace, I am well liked by everyone.

That said, I find a big difference between men and women in the workplace.  I'm not saying this about all women, or even the majority of women.  Now that my disclaimer is in place: Woman are crazy and vindictive.

They're sneaky, conniving, untrustworthy, etc.  They hate each other.  It's like the politics of the office are a storyline in the WWE.  They talk trash about each other bad and they are paranoid.  DRAMA.  DRAMA.  DRAMA.

...in my experience, at least.

Like you, Dave, I am an easy going guy at work and I get along with everyone.  In my role I have to be, I wear all kinds of different hats.  This is a tough way to make a living, you're dealing with sick and injured people that are living on a percentage of their salary, it's our job to adjudicate those claims and determine whether they are payable or not.  So every bit of positive that people can breathe into the office is a bit of positive badly needed.

I always greet someone with a smile when they come into my office with a question or a file.  I go out of my way to give positive feedback to people and have to really be at wit's end to provide negative.

The one thing that drives me nuts is when someone treats you like you aren't even there, like my example #1.  You're walking down the hall and make eye contact with someone and say "hello."  They don't even have the decent nature within them to muster a "hello" back or even nod.  They look right at you and keep walking.

I don't care what someone's situation is - when you're at work take a second and be professional.  Ignoring that someone spoke to you is insulting.

Dave, I know exactly what you're saying about women and agree it's tough to address without sounding sexiest.  As many of you can imagine - being a male RN means that you are completely outnumbered.  The vicious nature of the way women deal with each other at work is stunning.  I have been witness to two RN's talking about a file and acting like they are not only on the same page, but best friends.  The second they are apart and out of ear shot the rampage begins.  There are a lot of times that a female disability examiner will have a file reviewed by a female RN and completely disagree with that review provided.  They bring the file to me for a "second pair of eyes."  99 out of 100 times my opinion is the same as the previous nurse and they accept my review but not the previous.

It's just weird.  Don't even get me started on when one has to cover the other's desk for vacation or time off.
