Genre: Action Comedy
Starring: Will Smith, Charlize Theron, Jason Bateman
Premise: A real-life super hero in LA is hated by the public

I'm gonna try to do this without spoilers, so forgive me for the seemingly incomplete review, since the movie takes a pretty big plot twist right about half-way through.

Hancock is a character we haven't seen from Will Smith in the past.  He is a womanizing, whiskey-swilling, vulgar asshole.  Who happens to be immortal, infinitely strong, and can fly.  While fighting crime, Hancock sometimes doesn't go the traditional Superman route, and often does "whatever" do stop the bad guys, costing the city millions of dollars in road and building repairs, etc.  The city grows hatred toward Hancock, until he saves the life of Ray (Jason Bateman), a public relations manager.  As repayment, Ray takes Hancock under his wing in an effort to get the people to love him again and change his image.

I took this movie in halves.  The first half was hilarious, entertaining, and thought provoking.  The writers left in a tad of mystery lead toward why Hancock has these powers.  However, in trying to explain it toward the end of the movie, enter plot twist here.  I didn't care for the "how they explained it" portion, and the last 20 minutes of the movie seemed too far-fetched, even for a super hero movie.

I won't get into any more details, since I recommend people go see this movie and I don't want to spoil it.  Overall, you get 1 hour of good laughs before you start to see any "dumbness" on the screen.  The movie felt like they couldn't write enough material to fill the 90-minutes, or they just had no better way to explain how Hancock got his powers.

Overall rating: A- :: Must See
Comment: a good movie with a bad plot twist.  If you like the traditional "save the day" superhero movie, this is for you.  Its Superman with a small twist of reality.

I can't think of too many Will Smith flicks that I did not care for. I have been wanting to see this flick since I saw the very first preview. Thanks for the review Brian!!!!!

I had read there were two versions made, an R and PG-13 and the R version was better, but they were leaning towards the other version for ticket sales.

I'm going to see this on tuesday.  Usually he does a good July 4th movie, so I will probably like it. I am a big ID4 fan   Smiley
