7-16-2008 Chad Henne has a lot going on right now. He's still negotiating his rookie contract with the Miami Dolphins, he's getting ready for his first pro training camp, and he even got engaged last weekend. On Saturday he still found sometime to sign autographs in Berks County. "I think it's a great opportunity to come back to the home town and put out your autograph and give back to the community a little bit" said Henne. Henne did plenty of signing on Saturday, but he hasn't signed a contract yet. He understands the value of getting that done before training camp starts in a few weeks. "You see JaMarcus Russell and you see Brady Quinn, it just draws too much attention to the team and messes up the bonding of just being out there with your team."
Once he is in camp, Henne will get a shot at the starting job. He started for four years at Wilson High School, and four years at the University of Michigan. So, how would he deal with not starting for the first time since 8th grade? "It's going to be difficult if I am sitting on the bench watching someone else play, but all the adjustment will be more preparation, and to find ways how I can better myself to get back on the field" said Henne. The NFL is a whole new world, but Henne does get to look at one familiar face everytime he steps in the huddle. Dolphins first round draft pick Jake Long. "I don't think I'll get sick of him, him protecting my backside. It's great having an ex teammate with me, and a continuing teammate in Miami, and having a comfort zone in the huddle and a guy to share experiences with." Long's presence means if Henne does crack the lineup, he probably won't take the beating that many rookie quarterbacks take.
