Dolphins RB Ronnie Brown slowed by thumb injury

DAVIE - Don't expect to see running back Ronnie Brown too much this week after spraining his right thumb Saturday.
Brown, who is still trying to overcome the mental remnants of a torn ACL, now has to deal with another injury that could keep him out of Saturday's exhibition game.
"He's day to day right now with that thumb,'' Sparano said. "He won't practice today.''
It's looking more and more like running back Ricky Williams will be the workhorse in the backfield at the beginning of the season, with Brown filling in occasionally. Williams has gained 74 yards on 15 carries in the first two games, while Brown has six yards on five rushes.
"I certainly feel comfortable with both backs back there,'' Sparano said. "It's a matter of getting both guys the work they need. To be honest with you, even the other night, it seemed like Ricky carried the ball a bunch, but Ricky only played 16 plays, and 10 of those were carries.
We need to get him some more work…and certainly we need to get Ronnie some more work, too.''
That could be difficult with Brown nursing a thumb injury and just two exhibition games remaining.
