Something that irritates me about TV.

There's a lot of TV (good TV, too) that's been getting on my nerves lately.  I've touched on it before, I think.

I started watching Prison Break earlier this year, from a recommendation of both my sister and dad.  I really enjoyed it and got way into it.  I only have 2 episodes left, but despite me really getting hooked at first, I can't bring myself to watch the rest, despite it readily being available.  Why?  I couldn't figure it out for a while.  But then I realized, that it's because it's a road to nowhere.  I feel like I'm getting strung along, with no real end in sight.

Other shows have lost me the same way.  I watched LOST religiously in its first year, and halfway through the second, I just stopped watching.   I still enjoyed it, but it seemed like each episode stopped being about entertaining me and more about getting me to watch the next week.

I see Heroes possibly falling down the same path.  ...although it's not happened yet.

I find myself more liking shows that either require no real plot to be good, or those that are set stories with a beginning and an end.  I recently watched ROME and Dexter again.  ROME is about Caesar, ending with his death, and Dexter is based on a book.  ...the season IS the book, with a conclusion that wraps up.  Each has a 2nd season, but also, each is self-contained to be its own story.

Also, the Office, Arrested Development, 30 Rock, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, etc...they don't require large, ongoing plot devices to coax you in to keep watching.  You keep watching because they're funny on their own right.

Have any of you felt this way, and tired of some shows that you used to like?

I never really liked any of the shows that required watching each and every episode, with little being self-contained. It always feels like you're just being strung along. 24, Lost etc.

The only one of the kind I did enjoy was Heroes. The wife and I watched the first season and really enjoyed it immensely. The thing is, we've been holding off on watching the second season because it just seems like "too much" of an effort.

Personally, my favorite show recently has been House. The overall storyline moves along, but at the same time, each episode is fairly self-contained.

I agree with Dave's reasons,I think it's kind of hard to bring in new viewers if they've missed the first season...(Or someone that has watched every episodes....)

I think my bigger complaint is rehashing the same show different cast,and changing the city,or adding a word to the title....Law and order,CSI...

Shows that I used to watch,but don't anymore,even though they're still running...(I got bored or they changed alot) CSI,Monk,My name is Earl is heading that way fast...(The whole jal thing bored me to tears...)

I reeeeeally hope you're wrong, because I hate when a show strings you along like that. I don't think it will happen with Heroes though, because so much of what happens in each episode builds toward a specific end to the season, and it's so fukkin' interesting that I can't imagine burning out on it any time soon.

There's a show stopped watching midway thru the season because it started to get kind of hokey. There are two people on here who continued to rave about it, and everytime they did, I thought "Are you serious?".

I agree about Lost,  the show is not going to have a conclusion that will make any sense at all, yet they continue to be a high rated show.  The create twists that will never be explained just to try to be mysterious.  The sad thing is, is that by the time the retards who watch figure out that the whole show never made any sense ABC and Lost will have made $$$$$$$.  It will then make more people want to make shows that are just twisty and never have a conclusion cause they make money and have no backlash.

I think it Could be two shows I've mentioned that I like...Pushing Daisies,and Burn notice....Pushing daisies feeds my fantasy.hopeless romantic side...Burn notice I don't know maybe the same way I watched the A-team as a kid...Except I also get to look at Gabrielle Anwar! I still have a thing for,but I'm not wild on her new Lips...
