Doctor D pointed this out yesterday when we were hanging out together watching the game.  Chad Pennington is a smart, efficient QB, the likes of which the Dolphins have not had under center in quite some time.  I noticed the TV announcers mentioning this as well, and they say he's a bright mind who would make an excellent QB coach as well when he decided to hang up the pads. 

Any thoughts on this?

He seems to be able to motivate those around him. One thing that all the jets players said was that he was a hell of a leader. I think thats what they were refering too as well as his smarts.

Here's another good question...... when he hangs it up and we turn Chad Henne loose, should we offer him a QB coach position?

I don't doubt that Pennington is very smart, but will he make a good coach? I don't think any of us have any real insight into that. Coaching is a lot different from playing. Being smart certainly helps both, but considering how many smart quarterbacks there have been and how few quarterbacks go on to become coaches, despite the clear leadership qualities that one would think applied to both professions...

Probably the best indication is his ability (or lack thereof) to tutor younger quarterbacks.

When Henne takes over, Pennington will likely become the backup.  I'd be surprised if he didn't.

Wouldn't hurt us to keep Pennington on the roster if he can still produce in case Henne gets hurt or doesn't pan out.  I think Pennington is unselfish, along with the smarts, which helps with the player/coach aspect.  Joe Montana was kick ass but he didn't want Steve Young around from what I've heard and seen.

If Pennington keeps playing like this,  Chad Henne wont see a start for a LONG TIME. 

I am surprised so many of you simply assume Chad Henne will even succeed as a starter.  That is a tall order of any player, let alone a young and unproven one. 

That said, I certainly HOPE he has what it takes, but I couldnt be happier with Pennington's performance thus far.
