The Dolphins have swapped out safeties, cutting six-year veteran Chris Crocker on Tuesday and replacing him with Tyrone Culver, who was released last week.
Crocker, who started at free safety for the first two games of this season, contributed 10 tackles and broke up one pass in the six games he played.
He was responsible for two critical breakdowns in the Dolphins' first two losses, which resulted in touchdowns. From that point Renaldo Hill replaced him as the team's starting free safety.
Crocker signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins in March worth $1.15 million with $300,000 of it guaranteed.
His release opens up a spot in the Dolphins' dime package, which cornerbacks Jason Allen and Nate Jones, and Culver will likely compete for.
Culver first joined the Dolphins in September when the Packers' 2006 sixth-round pick was claimed off the waiver wire.
He spent the first five games primarily contributing on special teams, recording six tackles. Last week he was waived to make room for safety Brannon Condren, who contributed one special teams tackle in his debut as a Dolphin.
