^^ They're not saying it's a season killer.  They're saying it's a good thing for the Dolphins, because it gives them a chance to catch up with their division directly (by beating them), rather than indirectly (winning other games and hoping their division loses).

I read "dont count ON the dolphins," which changes the meaning of the whole passage.
