If you ask me, we need to pony up the big bucks for at least one big free agent this year and take care of the rest of our needs in the draft.  IMO it needs to be Peppers or Aso

Better article, IMHO:

http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80e2d282

He's going to command quite a lot of money, probably in the $40 million for 4 years with at least $10 million guaranteed. If we have a shot at someone like him, I think that's the price you pay (and enjoy paying).

The problem is that the Panthers can franchise him. Maybe throw a late draft pick at them in exchange of an amicable transition?

Doesn't Carolina play the 4-3?  If so, grabbing Peppers is a risk.

Peppers prefers to play with a new team, in a new city, perhaps one that uses a 3-4 scheme that would better serve his skills.

I think he'd do fine in a 3-4

According to the NFL.com / AP article I linked, he VERY MUCH wants to go to a 3-4 defense.

Considering his size and speed - and just his talent - I think he'd perform at least as well in a 3-4 as he has in Carolina's 4-3, if not better.

He'd be a HUGE steal for Miami.

You don't know that for sure.  Where would he fit in a 3-4?  Defensive end?  Pass rushing OLB opposite Joey Porter?  And how good would he do?  It might take him some time to learn the intricacies of a 3-4.

Seeing as how Matt Roth adjusted as quickly as he did, I don't think Peppers will have a problem

I agree. I like Peppers. He does alot for the community too, which is an added bonus. But, I want a game breaker type WR too.

I'm torn on the Peppers discussion... I don't think Miami is one stud away from being a SB contender right now, regardless of position, so I hate to see too much frivolous spending. That said, I really like Julius Peppers, and think he would have an extremely positive effect on the large number of young defensive players that will be on the roster when camp opens.

Aw what the hell, it isn't my wallet getting plundered... Let's sign him!! (assuming he isn't tagged)

But, I want a game breaker type WR too.

Round two, pick #44... Hakeem Nicks. Every time I watch film of Nicks, my brain superimposes a Phins uniform on him.

He and Peppers are both North Carolina guys too...you know, in case you need any additional symmetry to set the image.

i agree... he is going to cost big time $$$$$$. but let's face it, in today's nfl, if you build a team with stud o and d lines you are going to have a shot to contend for a title.

Anyone notice Karlos Dansby, playing for the Cardinals....I think I'd rather have Dansby over Peppers...Yeah Peppers is the bigger name, but Dansby will 28 next year, and might come cheaper......Football futures has him listed as a free agent, and so does rotoworld.com.....
