I'm ecstatic...I didn't like the hire,I felt like it was perpetuating the one player away mentality.Let's face it Lou has pretty much just going through the motions this year....Mike Quade the third base coach is going to be the interim manager, and had been told that he will get the opportunity to manage, and Alan Trammell wont.

The Downside....
I feel it's almost inevitable that the Ricketts family (the new Cubs owners),and  Jim Hendry are going to Ryne Sandberg as our next Manager...God I hate this idea,a lot of fans seem to be clamoring for it,and I feel this alot like a Jason Garrett type move.(They're more worried someone else is going to hire him away). I think Ryne Sandberg knows the X's,and O's just fine to be a manager, being a a HOF player, and managed in the monors for the past 4 years.I feel there is a difference between veteran multi millionaires egos, and guy's hungry to make it to the show..Guy's that have been good players, and been bench coaches, hitting coaches, fail as managers....(I equate this like football coaches that have been college head coaches, and then coaching in the NFL...It really helps at least being an assistant, or coordinator in the NFL IMO)

I think Sandberg is set up to Fail....We've not won a world series in 103 years, our roster is a mess.(over paid under performing injury prone guy's, Soriano,Ramirez,Fukudome,Silva, Grabow, Zambrano)..Dusty Baker, and Lou Pinella have both just failed. If we trade Zambrano,it's not like Trading a Cliff lee, or a C.C. Sabbathia...We're going to get shit back, and half to pay most of the contract....We've been rumored to be trying to trade Koske Fukudome, which is similar....A player no where near what he's being paid....Our Minor league players tend to be highly over rated,We constantly hear about highly touted prospects, but they rarely seem to do anything in the majors...Sam Fuld was supposed to be one of those guy's,that made a big impression at the end of last year....It was Tyler Colvin that came out of no where this year in spring training...(Fuld just recently got called up, from what I've read)

If we're sold that Sandberg is the guy, have him be the bench coach under Bob Brenly, or another veteran manager....(I'm a big Bob Brenly fan,I hate the idea of setting him up to always look over his shoulder, but I think he could do a good job)

I love Ryne Sandberg...one of my favorite "non-Padres" players of all time. I hope he shocks the hell out of folks and builds a winner in Chicago, and I wish the guy nothing but success.

Unless the Cubs run into the Padres in a future playoffs of course, in which case it's 1984 all over again. Wink
