Playcalling vs. Audibles

I've posted earlier about how the offense seems to be stuck in neutral for long periods and we've been giving Dan Henning quite a lot of shit for his playcalling.  What I don't understand, the whole Buffalo game I saw Henne check off at the line maybe twice.  Have they not handed the keys to the offense to this kid yet?  Or are we doing the whole manage the game thing because he threw some bad interceptions last year? 

Does this team not have a check with me/autoball option other than your standard 2min drill?

Easy, killer.  This is about more than your hatred for Chad Henne.

I don't think Sparano is ready to just give the ball to Henne and tell him do what feels right.  Most QB's don't get that kind of freedom until they have proven themselves and some never get it.  You have to remember that Henne has only started 15 games in his NFL career at this point.

How many quarterbacks in the NFL actually audible to a significant degree?

My understanding is that the most freedom "normal" quarterbacks get is to choose between two plays called in. Other than that, many quarterbacks will point out blocking assignments, blitzers and such, but that's not an audible.

Son, if you could get over your animosity towards Henne and post something more intelligent, people may actually want to read it. 

I have to agree with Pappy and say that Henne is a little too inexperienced to have the freedom to audible.  If the Dolphins are blowing out the other team, I'd let him do it.  But the past two games have been dogfights at the end.

Did anyone catch Sanchez calling plays in during the preseason on Hard Knocks. That was pretty cool, IMHO. Probably a really good exercise for a young quarterback.

I hope they loosen the chains a little bit on him as the season goes on if that's indeed the case.

After watching the replay on Thursday night, there wasn't much to throw to.  Granted, I wasn't looking at game tape, but I was specifically looking to see if Henne had any throws to make.  There was no one to throw to on the 3rd down play in the last 2 minutes that got deflected.  Even if the ball had made it to the secondary, literally everyone was covered like a glove.  It was well defensed by Minnesota.

If we had a more experienced QB or a more trusting coaching staff, I'd love to see what Henne could have done...good or bad.

I still say after Brandon Marshall our WR's still aren't great. I'm not sold on Hartline yet being a starter in this league. Bess is good but he is what he is (a 3rd WR/slot guy)

One other thing to consider is both of the first two games were away games and in classically loud stadiums particularly on home openings.  I am sure communication would have been pretty tough and we will see what happens when the offense has a chance to hear.

Unfortunately, our home field advantage in this regard has been lacking.  Too many Yankees in the south these days so even at home there is a good bit of noise for our offense to contend with.
