So a year ago,I upgraded my P.C. new I7 860 processor,MoBo,Memory,video card (somewhat regrettably),HD...then a week later installed windows 7...To fit my budget, I blew a little more on the video card,scaled back on the memory (it factored into the CPU decision between I7 920 and 860...920 with 9 GB's of ram over budget,860 with 8 gb of ram under budget)
So I've wanted to upgrade to 16 GB of ram,It will max my motherboard which is fine...Right now I'm running 4 2gb sticks of gskill ram 2 dual channel kits...
A single stick of 4gb ram =78.99 x4 to get 16gb = 315.96
2 4gb sticks dual channel kit = 159.99 x 2 to get to 16 gb =319.98
4 sticks of 4gb Quad channel kit =469.99!
Am I really gonna get $150 more performance out of the quad channel kit?
Modified to add, I'm worried,if I can get those damn rip jaw spreaders in computer under the CPU fan...I don't have tall spreaders (non Rip jaw version of the same brand) on the ram,I had to take the fan off to install the memory because the housing reaches over 1 1/2 memory slots...
(So I've read,heard,and believed)
Get Dual channel kit,it's more efficient? They are two pieces that are manufactured together,and have sequential serial numbers..They work better together...whatever...
