Probably a good thread to slide over into the "Around the NFL" section...

On a side note though, I can't see why this would bum out any Phins fans. If Gruden gets offered the Miami job and he really wants it, I'm certain there is verbiage worked into the contract that allows him to make the jump.

I dont want Gruden. He stole Dungy's ring, and ran the Bucs into the ground. Dungy took an under achieving Colts team and won the Super Bowl.

I don't want Gruden either.  There is one guy I'd love to see at the helm next year.  Joe Philbin, Packers offensive coordinator

Glad I'm not the only one that feels this way.

Not that I care to want Gruden, but EVERYONE says the same thing about him in Tampa. Dungy was there how long? And couldn't bring 'em over the hump. And can't you say the same about Callahan, and how he took Gruden's Raiders to the Super Bowl? Not knocking Dungy, but I ain't knocking Gruden either.

I don't want Gruden, really, either.  But this is non news.  As mentioned above, he probably has an out clause for coaching.  ...and contracts can always be broken.  If he's making head coach money, he can definitely pay any penalty.

It's just something stupid people say.  When Gruden took over, the bucs had 9 starters over the age of 30, and of course tampa traded 2 firsts and 2 seconds to oakland to get him.  And he was 9-7 his last two years in tampa, hardly running them into the ground. And the thing about took dungys team?  They were 9-7 the year before gruden got there and were 1 and out in the playoffs. lol

means nothing. Any coach that wants to go back and coach will. They all put "out-clauses" in their contracts.

This deal just give him SECURITY and LEVERAGE. Any team that now wants him has no leverage. Gruden can say I have a steady job for the next 5 years, you want me...pay up big time.

And if there isn't a "good fit" for him in his eyes, he is now in no rush to come back to coaching as he has the ESPN gig locked up long-term.

In fact doing this move now, in early October, all but tells me he is coming back next year. Because he can now force any owners hand to pay him more.

You really don't know how ignorant you are on this subject.  That defense that year was one of the best EVER!  My left nut could have won a superbowl with that team.  I'll give him credit for building up the Raiders, but he rode the coat tails of Monte Kiffin's defense in Tampa.   He should have won multiple superbowls with the talent on that team, and for an offensive guru, his offense in Tampa SUCKED!  By the end of his tenure he had completely alienated himself from the team.  There are a number of ex Bucs that bashed him.  He's an egomaniac, something we don't need.
