Wow.  Davis was a true pillar of the NFL community.  His work with the AFL alone makes him one of the greatest and most important figures in the history of either league.  This is a sad day for football-owners, players, and fans alike.

With his passing, however, the Raiders are probably better off.  His football acumen had dwindled significantly over the last 10 years as he ran his team into the ground with ridiculous decision after ridiculous decision.

I wonder why the location and details of his death are being withheld, though.

Good man. Great to charity and didn't use charity to get attention for himself, he just gave behind the scenes and gave A LOT!

We live in a time where there are few characters in sports, the NFL especially. And we just lost the biggest one the NFL has ever had. Also ironic the two most famous owners in ALL of sports (Steinbrenner and Davis) were born on the same day one year apart. And died just one year apart.

Kind of wierd. I didn't expect to miss him but I think I will.

Just Rest In Peace Baby!! The league will miss you.

This is a guy who started the AFL, which eventually became the AFC, revolutionized the passing game, and wasn't afraid to take on the NFL when they didn't allow him to move to a different city.

The man had balls, and he let them hang constantly, even though his team has been a disappointment as of late.

Just Win Baby!!!

RIP, Al Davis... You were the liveliest undead person the league has ever known.
