I thought the general consensus was to draft a QB/DE/OL, at least in round one. If we could get Blackmon or Floyd, I'd be fine with that. -EK

I was talking about later rounds (2nd or 3rd).

Doc- it's not really even a production problem for me. SOOOOOOOOOO many people pointed at Marshall's off the field issues as a reason to get rid of him, and now Miami signs a guy who was arrested for public intoxication. It's getting a player with all of the downside Marshall had and none of the upside. -EK
It was more than just Marshall's off field issues that I had a problem with. He was pretty bad on the field as well at times like when he had hands of stone around the endzone, when he ran out of bounds because.....well I guess he just forgot that there were bounds, when he would get flagged for stupid penalites, when he would punt the ball in practice because he dropped another pass, etc.

Then when you're talking off the field problems, it's not your arrest record that I care about, it's more like how you get along with your QB and whether or not you display a confrontational attitude with both your QB and the coaches about how plays are designed to be run, etc.

Now I don't know a THING about Naanee, so maybe he does all that stuff too, but just comparing his arrest record with Marshall is not enough. It's not NEARLY enough.

When I played tennis, we had a strategy (although we weren't supposed to use it).  It was called, stacking.
That's an extremely insightful point. Not many people would make the connection from Tennis to football, I know I certainly didn't, but it's spot on. Well done.

We have used a similar strategy in pool. Typically we try to go head to head but in a case where our best guy might be missing we will do this.

This allows Miami NOT to double-down at WR in the draft. And they can double-down at another position.

It was made crystal clear by the organization today when they announced it that Naanee isn't expected to replace Marshall. He got the vet minimum and will fight for a roster spot.

Nannee signed for the vet minimum, Marshall's price tag was 16 million.  How can you even compare?

If Nannee catches 3 TD's this season, it was worth it.  Cause Marshall set the going rate of receiving TD's at 2.67 million per TD.

Currently he is Miami's 3rd or 2nd best WR heading into the draft. I think he will make the team and has an outside chance to actually start depending on injuries in training camp and what happens in the draft.

Personally I think the best thing to do is have a complete team (53 players) going into the draft.

Then you aren't forced to draft anyone position but can say -- okay what will improve the team more -- this WR or this QB or this tackle, etc.

I guess I just look at it differently than most of the rest of you guys. I hear a ton of complaining about getting other team's "cast-off's" at several other positions, but somehow getting this one is OK with you. Seems pretty inconsistant to me. -EK

IMHO, picking up someone else's cast offs at min wage and without using a draft pick is a good thing.  Worst case the player gets cut at the end of training camp.  Best case you get a Wes Welker, Kurt Warner, etc.

Trading a pick and/or getting hefty contract price for someone else's cast off is often a bad thing.

picking up a cast off for relatively nothing is literally a "nothing to lose" situation.  Recall Wes Welker was cut by the Chargers in training camp.  Seems like he was a worthwhile pickup.
