Not sure why, but he is only 29 and had a good season, plus he fits Coach Philbin's zone blocking scheme very well.

Ireland whiffed badly on him last year.

He didn't whiff....Miami had no money to spend!

You can't sign top end players when you have no cap space!!!!!!!

^^^^^

Regardless, the Dolphins have a second chance to get him, and say goodbye to Jake Long in the process.

...and Winston's biggest strength is being a quality run-blocking RT.

If he could be acquired at a "reasonable" price, then I'd say go for it. Don't break the bank for him though.

Agree, he isn't replacing Long. Not the same position

Well, if Martin is playing left, Winston comes in at RT.  If a good deal can be had, this could be an excellent signing.

A "good deal" likely can't be had, if more than one team needs a RT.  The market will set the price, and the Dolphins will have to outbid the most desperate team, for any free agent.

The only advantage they have is if he likes fishing or something and wants to live in Miami.  Otherwise, his only incentive to come here would be money.

Thought no one could sign anywhere until March 12th?

I'm guessing that only applies to free agents whose contracts are up. If a guy gets released, he can sign anywhere after he clears waivers

Free Agency STARTS tonight at midnight. Agents can talk to teams. Nothing becomes official till Tuesday at 4pm. But at 12:01 tonight teams can contact agents and talk numbers and strike deals in "principal"

UPDATE: NFL has at the last moments changed what can and cannot be done. Essentially the same but everything must be kept hush till Tuesday

This would be a huge win for the Fins.

He isn't that good and just a right tackle. Would be a nice signing but not huge.

Clearly he is a Plan B and honestly I am not even sure they pull the trigger on this. He has been cut in 2 years in a row for a reason ya know
