During the post season baseball coverage, I'm seeing ads being run for a few of California's ballot issues. (Some I find interesting SF,and Oakland soda taxes, saw another one forgot exactly what it was though)

I've also noticed a few tricky ones,or strangely worded one...

I'm curious to know what ballot issues you have state wise,or locally?

Are there any that have catches? perhaps seem a bit tricky?

!!!Please do not rurn this in to a the Republicans, Democrats,Hillary,Trump,Liberals, Conservatives bashing thread please!!!

We have 2 state proposals to raise Cigarette taxes, both seem a bit tricky underhanded. Here in Missouri we have the lowest (or really close) to the lowest cigarette taxes in the country at 17 cents a pack.

One is a constitutional amendment that hurts the smaller Tobacco companies, that the big tobacco companies are pushing for. This is the one the money goes to the transportation department.

The other issue has smaller increases, but slipped into the bill (not mentioned on the ballot),If any county,or state ballot attempts to raise the cigarette taxes. This tax is Void.(I think) The money goes to education on this one.

CA has an insane number of referendums on the ballot this year.  Outside of the normal ones for more bonds and taxes, here are the more unusual propositions on the ballot:

- legalization of recreational marijuana
- mandatory condoms in adult films
- repeal of death penalty, or alternatively...
- curtailing death row appeals process
- ban on single-use plastic grocery bags (along with a mandatory fee on single-use paper bags)
- mandatory background check for ammo sales and ban on high-capacity magazines

Many of these propositions are only plausible to pass in a presidential election year.  We'll see how they shake out.

I've heard of this one: mandatory condoms in adult films

What's that about?  Is there big support for this?  Where is the money coming from to get this passed?

Los Angeles passed a local ballot measure in 2012 requiring all adult films that are made in LA County to use condoms.  This is kind of a big deal, as a great portion of American porn is (was?) produced in LA County, and I think it needs not be stated that there are many features of these kinds of films that become impossible with this restriction. This ballot proposition would extend this requirement statewide, which (in practice) would likely drive the adult film industry out your way to South Florida.

The primary people supporting this proposition are AIDS advocacy groups.  The primary people opposing it are adult film performers and the adult film industry... although interestingly, this is the only proposition on the ballot that is opposed by both the California Democratic Party and the California Republican Party (as well as the California Libertarian Party).  Looks like all politicians can agree on where they don't want intrusive government regulation.

Back in 2012, I saw a video discussing the yet-to-be-passed LA measure.  There was an adult actress on the panel, and she voiced an objection to the law based on practical grounds: when you are shooting a lot of scenes with a lot of partners, apparently the friction differences between condom-to-skin and skin-to-skin become quite pronounced.  She said that this would effectively cut the amount of work that adult actresses are physically capable of doing.

we have an amendment to allow electic companies to overcharge and underpay for electricity to-from people with primary solar power

it's worded in such a way that it sounds like it's for equal treatment for people with secondary electric power from utilities, but it's actually a power company drafted amendment

- legalization of recreational marijuana

Medical marijuana once again in Florida.

4 legalize recreational pot

So far this year, I have been assigned, and written, 16 different sets of ad copy for NORML, the National Organization for the Reform of Marijuana Laws. For comparison, I only had 9 total assignments in 2015, and 6 of those were in the final two months of the year.  It definitely feels like things are ramping up quickly on the push for legalization.

The one that I care about is Amendment 1, but I mostly care about it because it's reverse-worded, intentionally trying to trick voters.

Basically, it's a solar power bill, but it's being pushed by all the big money power companies.

They say Vote YES for Solar, saying that it gives you freedom to install solar panels (or something like that...but you already have that right), but what it actually does is allow refusal to implement solar, in an effort to defund solar energy projects in the state.

It's basically gas companies trying to crush solar power, but worded in a way to sound like it's in support of solar energy.

Vote NO on 1.
