The only time I had official breaks was when I worked as a laborer for Disney and it was union. This meant we got 2 fifteen minute breaks and a 30 minute lunch. The times started when we got to where ever we were taking the break so a 15 minute break turned into 40 minutes and the half hour lunch was at least an hour or more depending on how long the lunch lines were. It was crazy but that's how they did it.
CF, I know you're a conservative and probably pro-business.  But surely you have to realize that in a non-union environment, in the absence of that time allotment, it means that you can't take a 15-minute break and you don't have enough time to make it through the lunch line, right?

I mean, if it takes you 10-15 minutes just to get to the designated break area, who should sacrifice that time... labor or management?

In road construction we often are in places where there is no where to eat close by. It's expected that people will bring their lunch if they want to eat or get to a store and back within 30 minutes.

No problem with a "bring your lunch" requirement... but again, if it takes you 10-15 minutes just to walk to the location where they want you to take your breaks/lunch, who should eat that time loss: the employee or the business?
