^ The problem with resigning Gesicki is that the recent top TE signings have been 14-15 million a year. Goedert just signed an extension with the Eagles at $14 million a year, as did Andres with the Ravens. Last year Kelce and Kittle signed extensions worth $15 million a year.
Gesicki is going to want something in that ballpark, I would imagine. Sure, you could reasonably argue that Gesicki isn't quite at the level of those other four, but you could also argue that two of those guys have Hall of Fame quality quarterbacks throwing to them.
The drop-off in TE pay is pretty steep with the 7th guy earning "just" $10 million a year, dropping to $8 million by the time you hit #10.
Adjusting for when the contracts were signed, there's no way we are getting Gesicki for less than $10 million a year. Probably more like $12 million as a floor.
Is Grier willing to fork over that kind of cash?
Good quote. I like Gesicki a lot. Not sure he is worthy of $14M+ per year. If the Dolphins had a WR corps that actually played in games instead of being inactive, they wouldn't need to lean on Gesicki so much. So it is an interesting situation with Gesicki for sure.
