Young people literally don't know the meaning of lame.

Due to being hit by a car and needing 3 surgeries I have been on crutches for over a year.  A joke I like to make is that I move slow but I literally have a lame excuse.  Most people over 30 get the pun , but most younger people only know lame as an idiom and will tell me not to be so hard on myself and that a broken leg is a valid reason not a lame one.

Well that would just make the pun so much more enjoyable to have a young person try to explain why your excuse isn't "lame". lol

PS it's one of my pet peeves that annoys me when people use the word "literally" when they actually mean "figuratively".

I don't like that young people aren't plugged into pop culture that came before them.  ...like, I had a general familiarity with people, music, TV, movies of things well before I was around: Gilligan's Island, Brady Bunch, Green Acres, 2001, Star Trek, etc.

With the way things are structed with media now and how everything they like is on demand and tailored for them, aside from one or two shows that have had a resurgence, they don't know what stuff is.

that's because old reruns aren't really a thing, there isn't a captive audience for them. you had what 6-7 stations growing up, more if your family had cable. And even then half the stations ran mash re-runs.  Now my kid just watches youtube all day and asks me stupid questions because some streamer said something dumb

Yeah, I realize that this is the cause but I also think that there was a lot to be said for things that stayed around longer and soaked into the cultural zeitgeist.  I didn't watch Green Acres -- never saw an episode of it in my life.  But when Pulp Fiction makes a joke about it, I get it. 

Reruns, yes, in terms of syndication -- but also entire stations dedicated to old shows -- USA Network and Nick at Nite.  I watched a lot of Three's Company and Lassie and all kinds of other stuff.

I think we had a more homogeneous culture because there was only three options for TV, today there are hundreds.  We watched reruns from 15 years earlier because it was the only thing on

I always crack up seeing Tik Toks of the differences between Gen Xers and Millennials. Like in the way they dial a phone, take a picture, or roll down a car window. hahaha

We aren't "plugged into pop culture that came before us" because of our deep respect for tradition and cultural heritage, but because we had no other choice but to sit through replays of movies, TV shows, and music that were loved by Boomers.
