60 Years ago today on September 2, 1966, on the very first play of the Dolphins Franchise, the Dolphins returned the opening kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown!!

I met  the guy who ran it back, Joe Auer, at the Dolphins facility in about 2005. I think Dave Gray and a few others were there too.

You can also credit Joe Auer with giving Bob Griese his shot.  In 1967, Bob Griese was a rookie and waiting in the wings with John Stofa as the starter.   Auer missed a key block on a pass play and Stofa was sacked and suffered a season ending injury.  Griese came in and the rest is history.

That is an absolutely moronic take. 

Griese was the Dolphins first pick in the draft and fourth overall.  He was going to get a shot.  Maybe not as early but he would have gotten a shot.  Auer catching Griese's first completion for a TD was way more relevant to Griese keeping the starting job.
