Movie review: Curious George

Okay, okay, I know its a cartoon, and its intended for kids, but I am reviewing it anyway.

Laura and I took Josh to see this today. It was Josh's first time in a movie theater (remember, he's only 3 1/2!). This was a really good movie. The story was pretty cool, and there were some inside jokes that only adults would understand (a scene with George atop the Empire State Building, like King Kong). The animation was really good, and was very true to the Curious George books from when I was a kid. Oddly enough, it was also very reminiscent of Adam Sandler's animated Movie 8 Crazy Nights. The voices were very well done, with Will Ferrell doing a good job as the man in the yellow hat.

Overall, I enjoyed myself. Maybe it was the fact that it was my son's first movie. But anyway, I'd give this movie an A, and rate it higher if you have kids or were a fan of Curious George as a kid.

Now, as for the rip off known as movie theater snacks, don't even get me started. Fortunately when we got the tickets, the girl was really nice.  I asked for two adults and one child. The girl asked me how old Josh was. I told her 3 1/2 and then she said "He's under 2 right, cause kids under 2 are free." I think she felt bad charging people $6 for a kid to go see a movie. So Josh got in for free. But then I got us 2 medium drinks, a medium popcorn and a hotdog (Josh hadn't eatten lunch yet) and it came out to $19.25!!! Talk about robbery.

Anyway, go see the movie.

There's ways around that.  Have your wife get one of those purses that's like a mini-backpack, and put candy and popcorn in there.  Then you only have to purchase drinks. 

When I was in high school, I used to dress hip-hop with the butt, dragging jeans or the windbreaker pants with one leg pulled up to the knee.  I discovered pulling your windbreaker pants to the knee will create a pouch inside the lining of your pants.  I would buy a bag of candy and popcorn and drop the bag down inside that pouch, then walk non-chalantly into the movies.  One time, a cop saw me doing it and asked what I had in my pant leg.  I told him, "Candy and popcorn.  I'm gonna sneak it into the movies."  He then said, "Cmon son, you know that's not right."  I then told him, "I agree, but what they charge at the movie theater concession stands is robbery."  He let me go!!!

I would go see this if I had kids, but I just don't see myself checking this out, as a single guy.

I liked Curious George as a kid, though.
