Premise: A kid gets on a powerful man's good side, and must balance between the risky way of gangsters, the troublesome path of his friends, and the honest life of his father.

Rating: Very Good.

This movie started off a lot like Goodfellas, but then went in its own direction.  I was pretty surprised at some turns it made, unexpectedly.  I was happy to see that characters were not one-sided....everyone had good and bad to them.  Despite being a "gangster movie", it was really only a setting, and had more to do with racial relations.  At the heart of the story was a boy growing up with two father figures, and getting a duel education -- one in school, one on the street.

My only complaint is that the narration was a little choppy, and some of the descriptions were simplified and, as a writer, it bothered me for some reason.  For example: "His name was toupe, because he wore a bad toupe."  Maybe I'm just anal.

I liked that movie alot. To this day, I still think of it when I open the car door for a woman.
