Why are you for allowing these people to break the law?

I don't think that singing a Spanish language version of the Star Spangled Banner is breaking the law.

I know what you're saying though.  Laws are able to be reformed and I think that this is a good case.  I have several friends who are contributing members to society (many whom have been here since they were young) but have questionable legal status.

Calling them criminals is like calling you a criminal for going over the speed limit on your way home from work.

These are real people just like you and I, and they want a chance at a better life.  You just happen to be born on the other side of a fence.

This song is paying homage to America.  It's not dissing it.
If only!

According to the translators on the radio today the additional background lyrics allegedly seem to be calling for latinos to join together.... almost as if calling for a revolt or overthrow.

Had they translated it straight up, or as close as possible considering the language differences, and not politicized it, then you'd be right.

F these people. You come here illegally, crawling through barbed wire and water because your country sucks so bad and then you have the nerve to tell US what to do? Go change your own corrupt government if it's so intolerable.

The Muslims are doing the same shit. They come to other countries and then try to make them change the rules to suit them, whether it would PC nonsense here in America or dangerous nonsense like Sharia Law in Sweden. Difference is, no Mexicans want to strap a bomb to their chest.

I am glad Bush said English should be the national language. His "guest worker" program is nonsense though.

It doesn't look translated to me.  It looks like a completely different song.  That's the problem I have with it.

That is because they #1 probably used an online translation which does that and #2 something always gets lost in translating languages. You never really have the exact same language structure.

I wanted to add that I heard a clip of the song, not just read it, and I think it sounds horrible. I have also heard some of the Spanish DJs are questioning the idea. They have the right to translate the song, but I see it as a divisive move more than a unifying one.

Let's be honest, we are not going to be hearing this in Dolphin stadium or anywhere else before any ballgames or much of anywhere else for that matter.

Correct, but as far as I can tell the National Anthem does not have any background lyrics calling for latino unity.

Translate it as accurately as possible?  No problem.

Politicize it?  No.

Nobody is flipping out when Canadiens drive South.

Are you sure that you can say that? What about all of the "canadien" tourists are down here during the winter season.

A language is a skill.  It's not discrimination, any more than not hiring someone who doesn't speak English is discrimination.

This song is paying homage to America.  It's not dissing it.

This whole illegal alien thing is hyprocritical.  People just don't like Mexicans.  Nobody is flipping out when Canadiens drive South.

I just saw a protester on TV with an upside down American flag on a pole. On top of it was a smaller Mexican flag and another Latino flag.

[sarcasam]

That tells me they want to obey the laws, and become Americans.

Why do you say "they"?  That guy's actions represent that guy.

I say "They" instead of typing "illegal alien" every time..because every illegal alien is telling us that "they" don't give a damn about our laws.

1..."They" aren't showing how valuable "they" are to the US. "They" are saying that we as a country do not have a right to enforce our borders. However, if we go to another country, we can't just skip across the border.

2...If we give amnesty to these illegal aliens, the new US citizens will be going nuts about illegals 15 years from now. It happened when Reagan gave amnesty, and it will happen again if anmesty is given now.

3...If "they" love America so much, why are "they" doing their protest on a socialist holiday?

I think Frimp just hates hispanics, because we're becoming the majority. Grin Spics rule!

So because my opinion is very different from the majority of the people here, I'm accused of being racist?

It's funny. I have been called (or implied) things like racist, bigot, idiot, puppet, etc on this board. I disagree, and some of you attack me personally?

Good question.  Maybe they're unfamiliar with history?

Better today than Friday.  Imagine how ugly this would be if they were all drunk?

Com'on - I've explained this a dozen times already!

If they disagree with us then we're supposed to be tolerant.  However, it's a one way street.  If we disagree with them there are no such guidelines.
