Josh Beckett became upset Tuesday because members of the Boston media did not believe him that he doesn't have a blister on his finger.
"I don’t have (an expletive) blister," Beckett said. "Look at my (expletive) finger. I’m pissed. I really am. This is (expletive) stupid. My dad calls me. He thinks I’m lying to him. That’s it. I’m done talking to you guys for the year." May. 17 - 9:32 am et

Can't really blame Beckett here unless he is lying. The Boston and NY media can drive you insane. The good news for Boston is that it also drove Manny Ramirez, Pedro Martinez and Nomar Garciaparra insane and they were pretty good. He just has to make sure it doesn't bother him on the field too, otherwise they will really make life unbearable for him.

Josh and I had drinks after the game.  He doesn't have a blister, I examined the finger myself.  I have medical experience (I am an RN) and he doesn't even have the start of a blister.  I'd be pissed, too.  Tito didn't help him any, side stepping the question.

Of course now all our talks have to be "off the record" because of this, which pisses me off.  This is what I worried about on a personal level with Josh and I when he was traded up here.  We've been friends for a long time.

The media is shit(present company excluded). Some of their opinion pieces are just so ignorant you know they write them just to get people to read it.

Those Boston boys are crazy, I've never considered myself part of that.  The only time I was part of the Boston media is when I had to cover the Sox for the Globe for a month two years ago - and I hated every second of it.  I'm a Maine guy and we're a lot different than the crap that gets talked about.

Problem is this:  I am also a NO ONE when it comes to the Sox pecking order of media relations.  If Josh were to have an exclusive relationship with one reporter, and he picked me to do that with, life would become HELL for him.  He even mentioned my name on ESPN, did any of you catch that?  "I'm only going to talk to my friend Erick from now on."  Had to talk him down from that tree, he needs to be all or nothing.

It was pretty cool to be referenced on Sports Center, tho.

I guess we'll just talk about fishing until the season ends!  Smiley

Didn't he used to get blisters on his middle finger?  If so, would that not be the perfect opportunity to display said finger?  I'm just saying... Evil

He did display it, actually - in the press conference.  He held it up and said "see?  no blister."

I just meant it as an opportunity to flip the media the bird...

The thing is, Beckett constantly had blister problems in the past and they have limited his starts in several seasons.  I don't know if he's gotten over them yet
