One of the most havoc wreaking defensive tackles to ever play the game, HOF David "Deacon" Jones was a force that couldn't be stopped.

Jones invented the "head slap" to the offensive linemans head. The NFL banned the move years ago but Deacon still couldn't be stopped.

Jones was also outspoken. He also tried to launch a singing career and hired a backup band which went on to be world famous for backing up Eric Burdon and then going on their own to superstar success. The name of that group is WAR.

Here's a video of "The Deacon"  http://youtube.com/watch?v=J5-XFqCV8uk

Deacon was from Eatonville, Florida, the country's oldest African american township. He grew up about a mile and a half from my house in Maitland, and a street in the town is named for him. They didn't count sacks as an official statistic for most of his career; if they had he might well be the all time leader in that category.

In 1999 SI named him the defensive end of the century. A well deserved honor.

I did not know Deacon was from Eatonville.  Who said TDMMC was not educational?  Wink Grin

Getting offended by something you see on the internet is like choosing to step in dog shite instead of walking around it.
