Off the Field - DE Quentin Moses

Dol-Fans know that defensive end Quentin Moses joined the Dolphins as a free agent in 2007. But, did you know that he would like to have dinner with MIchael Jordan? Did you know that he loves soul food? You can learn more as MiamiDolphins.com takes you Off The Field With Quentin Moses.

THIS AND THAT

Along with being on the football team, you were also on the University of Georgia basketball team as a freshman. How did that go and what made you pick the field over the hardwood? “It went well. We went to a BCS Bowl Game and after the bowl game you get a little bit behind – having to get back in shape and stuff. But it was a great experience. There was a lot of stuff that went down – coaching changes and NCAA violations. I just took that as a sign to just stick with football.”

How difficult was that to balance the two sports? “Oh man, it was difficult. First of all, football is a year-round sport in college. So I was missing some of that and the coaches were mad at me. Then going to basketball there’s a different kind of physical demand on your body.”

Did you play as a kid then? “I played in high school. Basketball was my first love. Then I ended up getting a lot of scholarship offers from Western Kentucky, UAB, but Georgia said I could come there and play both. So as an Athens guy in my own hometown, I felt it was a good opportunity.”

What’s your best college football memory? “Winning two SEC Championships. My first year I didn’t really play a big role in it. But my second year we beat LSU. I had a sack in the game.”

How did it feel to record your first (half) sack in the NFL? “First of all when I got the opportunity to dress I felt blessed. I was excited about that because I had been in Oakland and then came here. So just to get the opportunity to dress and then to get the opportunity to get in the game – it was just a big relief to get a chance to be on the field again.”

You were drafted in the third round this past NFL draft by Oakland – then released. Were you surprised when they gave you the news? “Yeah, definitely. It was shocking to me and to everybody. It’s just one of those things that if you could go back and do it all over again, you just find things that you could do a little bit harder and do a little bit better. But I just use it as motivation to keep on working hard.”

FINISH THE SENTENCE

The last movie that I saw in the theater was... American Gangster.
One word that best describes me is... hungry.
As a kid, I always wanted to be a... professional athlete.
If I didn’t play football, I would be playing... basketball.
The best part about being in the NFL so far has been... getting to meet all the people I always looked up to.
If I could play a musical instrument, it would be... the drums.

I love soul food, but now that I'm getting older, it's tougher on my stomach and heart.  You can only eat that kind of food when you're young.

Tommy, I think I've got you beat in age and I just had some delicious soul food the other day. The greens were incredible.
